diesel cutting out

my 99 TDI Golf has developed a bad habit of completely cutting out, mostly at slow speed thank goodness (no power steering etc too). Once the power has gone and the car is is in the the side of the road I wait a minute and the cars starts as though nothing has gone wrong.
Local garage has been informed but said "come back when it happens again", which is not alway easy.

Any ideas or similar experiences:1zhelp:, that may pin point the root cause?

A 'local expert' has suggest the diesel filter, but I don't know if he's right or completely off the mark?

Have you had the car scanned for fault codes? Try vagcom :)

thanks not had it scanned - by will get his done if this can trace the fault/s

I have experianced this several times and it was the voltage supply rele for the ECU,the soldering on the contacts were loose
