Hi guys,

as post says I just replaced my RCD310 with an RNS-510, I got secondhand. Unit powers up ok, but there is no audio for anything. I've just got the bog standard VW audio system.

Do I have to go to a dealer to fix this, presume it's some coding thing? Or is there anyway I can do it myself?

Cheers

Well I have tried everything. I have reset the system, but still no audio, GPS & satnav are working fine.

Hi

I fitted one of these to our Touran 15 months ago, there are settings that need coding using VCDS, we had to code ours to our vehicle.

You wont be sorry for changing it, when it is coded.

Out of interest, what vehicle do you have.

Good Luck

It's a B6 Passat Bluemotion. Did the dealer do it for you? If you don't mind me asking, how much was the coding?

Cheers

Hi

Coded it myself with VCDS 17.3

Not difficult. if you have VCDS its just a case of going through coding help and putting a check in the relevant boxes and then saving it.

You could check in your locality on Ebay for VCDS coding help, it is offered quite regularly, or through any of the forums, there are some helpful people around.

Pity your not in the West Midlands.

You really need to have car scanned with VCDS, it is possible you could also have a short to ground (error reported with VCDS) in a speaker wire, which could cause the same problem. VCDS will give info and also any faults reported in the rest of your car systems.

Which can then be cleared, then if their is still a fault, because some may be historic, you will know what you are dealing with.

Gave up on it and sent the unit back, DVD player didn't work either so couldn't update firmware or maps. Will look again for another one this time I will make sure it has not been coded for a hardware amp.

Hello

Understand your situation, however, most if not all the things that you mention need coding with VCDS, granted DVD not working is no good. if you do get another one, would be happy to help and perhaps even try to put you in touch with someone your end with VCDS, for all the coding.

Good Luck

Just a thought, maybe way off but here goes:

Could it be coded for line output? These radios have the option for speaker level or line level for a factory fitted amp. If the line level is enabled it won't be able to drive the speakers.

Hello Mikey b8819

Sorry for not being able to get back to you sooner, Yes, it is possible I could help, if you still need it.

First of all, I need to know, have you checked which Can Gateway module you have, there are quite a few versions and not all are compatible, it will start with Part No: 1K0-907-530 with suffixes from A through K plus P, they also have different software versions, 15 of them.

If you check this link you will see what I mean.

Once you know if yours is OK, we can then move on.

Hope you are able to check, if you look on the WWW you can find out where on your car it is situated and get the reference number and software version.

Good Luck

Today, I updated my 2006 Passat with the RNS 510. I have DynaAudio. After installing and selecting DynaAudio in byte7 of address 37 (Navigation), I was not getting sound through the speakers. In addition to address 37 (Navigation), I had to update address 56 to reflect DynaAudio (I cannot remember which byte, but it is the same basic procedure as the update for address 37. After making that coding update and resetting the head unit, sound worked perfectly.
