This has taken me a while to sort of work out if i had a problem or not but i have come to the conclusion i have now since iv owned the car through winter and summer.

The problem i am having is no hot air coming from the drivers side vents.

I can select auto and put them both to full cold and the fans will spin up and shot out loads of cold air but if i put them to full max hot i dont get any fan increase at all. In-fact they slow right down to a trickle and this is because i think the car knows it cant supply any hot air from the drivers side.

If i put it to manual and set it to blow out the vents then i can adjust the passenger side and get hot air no problem but the drivers side i dont get anything its just continues to blow cold air and then at best luke warm air.

So i think its the drivers heater control motor. Im just wondering where this is located on the A6 2012?

is this under the steering wheel side or is it on the passenger side behind the glove box? Also where can i get one from and for how much?

Cheers Craig

I have exactly the same issue on my 2011 A7 with dual zone. Heat on the passenger side but nothing on the driver's.

Can anyone tell me if the heater temperature on these cars is controlled by solenoid valves (1 for each side) that control the flow of hot water from the cooling system into the heater radiator cores ? Or is the water flow on permanently so the heater temperatures are controlled by motorised flaps that stop / allow the air to flow through the heaters ?

You need to check the temp sensors fitted in the ducts just behind the outlets. These will monitor the temps and tell the control panel what the temp of air is at the outlet. If you pull the side fuse box access panel off you will see the 2 pin temp probe fitted into the black vent duct.
Have you scanned the car for any fault codes?

I lent my lead to someone a while ago and will ask for it back to check for fault codes.
Is it best to just swap the driver and passenger temp sensors over as a quick sanity test ?
Is the temperature controlled by air flaps or a valve controlling the water flow ?

Yes its worth trying and see what happens. Temp is controlled by the flaps. The heater matrix is always full of water which is coming directly from the engine, so its always going to be warm. The flaps cleverly direct either warm air that has been passed through the matrix if you want warm air or cold air that is bypassed from the matrix via the outside air intake that you can see at the bottom of the windscreen scuttle panel on the passenger side

Would anyone know the part numbers for the 2 pin temperature probes please & are there any other temperature probes in the car other than those mounted in line with the air vents ?
