So I went to change the volume last night on my steering wheel and the wheel now spins freely without the 'notches' stopping after each adjustment.
It's far more annoying than it has any right to be, but I'm worried a fix will involve a new steering wheel - which I guess will cost me a fortune?
The car is a A4 2012, 1.8 TFSI 170 SE (facelifted).
If I can just replace the control wheel that'd be a godsend - if anyone has any info on parts and installation I'd be really grateful.

Hi,
You just need a new set of buttons, not the complete steering wheel:

Thanks MF, that's excellent news.
I was slightly worried it'd be the cost of a steering wheel.
On the off chance, do you have any instructions on how to replace those buttons?
I can add it to the list of jobs I've got to carry out on my A4... at some point I need to remove the vinnacle and check behind it for something that has come loose and is constatly rattling / sliding from one side to the other round long corners...

I just googled "replace steering wheel buttons audi a4" and one of the first hits is this:

Whoops, probably should have done that first.
Hopefully I can do this without removing the airbag, not sure I'd feel confident doing that...

Looking at those instructions, I'd be willing to bet the airbag needs to be removed first. Make sure you disconnect the battery and wait for any residual current to drain before you start!
Good luck!
