Passat Estate 2012. It has a rear view camera but only shows proximity parking on the screen. Would appreciate any suggestions where the fault is most likely to be. Thanks for any help.

Are you sure it has a camera? I've got a 2012 Highline Estate and it doesn't have one - just sensors and a proximity display.

Absolutely sure it has the camera. The boot lid lock failed and was replaced and the mechanic confirmed it has a connected camera. Said would need investigation to determine fault but I wondered if any member may have solved a similar problem.

Not sure of the reliability of this, but I'll pass it on - When I bought my previous B7 in 2013, it was an ex-demo and had a camera. The salesman told us that loads of Passats have cameras fitted, but there was a supply problem with some aspect of the wiring, so they were just sent out without being included on the spec sheet.

Got a pic of the camera perchance?

To be 100% sure of what is fitted you need the Vehicle Data sheets and if possible sighting of the original dealer supply Order Form. The fore should be traceable/available (so I understand) through any VW Dealership, the latter from the original supplier if possible.

Both will show IF the camera option was selected at order.

Fortunately when I purchased my B7 the seller (who was also the original orderer) provided me ALL documents.

The Vehicle Data sheet (what is a list of all items fitted on the production line and consists 7 x A4 sheets) states - With rear view camera system (type 2). The Order sheet (hand written by salesperson) listes a number of optional extras, one being REAR VIEW CAM + RNS 510 NAV £1150.

Thanks to all for the comments and suggestions.
This estate B7 definitely has a camera which has a cable lead connection which looks to go via the tailgate into the roof.
The non VW mechanic who changed the faulty boot lock confirmed it has a connected camera. I later asked the local VW garage and they confirmed it has a camera but needed investigation to locate the fault. To be honest, I would prefer to be able to give the non VW garage some clues as the VW garage rates are almost double!!
I would just be very grateful for any suggestions of the likely cause of no picture.
Not that it makes any difference but this is an LHD Spanish reg. car.

1. The camera is faulty.
2. The switch linked to reverse is faulty.
3. The monitor is faulty.

In all honesty, while the VW dealer is twice the rate they should be able to determine the fault in half the time.
