Hi. I have a sad though not unusual story. I am in Canada and imported a 1997 Audi A6 Avant Quattro with the 2.5L diesel. A year after I got it my wife was driving and didn't notice the local petrol station putting gasoline in it. So car died and it was months before I got to looking at it and diagnosing it. So used engine shipped from Germany.

I just put $4000 into some body and front end work. Recently it wouldn't start and I discovered cylinders 4 and 5 have low compression. So as I am in the process of deciding what to do. Delve into fixing it or part it out.

I am wondering what people recommend for performance upgrades on this engine. Mine is stock. I am wondering what would be worth doing if I am rebuilding the engine anyway. Hopefully I just have to do rings and valves and not pistons and boring but....

I would appreciate your thoughts. Can these be tuned from the ECM?

Also recognizing that anything I do involves shipping from overseas.

Thanks

Torie

Also, does anyone know where I can source a repair manual for the diesel quattro?

In Europe and the UK (not the same thing) these cars are rapidly disappearing from our roads, I saw a 4B today for the first time in months and was surprised but then I noticed it was a 1.8T so not surprised, more shocked it had survived and not been scrapped as they all started seizing years ago. As for the diesel, they are rapidly becoming outcasts and about time too. Today the news stated the insane mayor Imam Kahn of London said all diesel cars pre approx 2013 are going to be hit with a £12.50 a day charge inside the north circular and within a couple of years inside the M25, that’s around 6 million owners with no amesrty for residents, diesel is dead, let it go!
