My Passat is approaching 40K miles at 5 years old so I am planning a Major Service plus brake fluid change.

The dealership where to car was supplied from new (I am the second owner) have quoted £363 (MS £299, BF £64) for this work.

Yes I could hunt around and buy it cheaper from a 3rd party but is it really worth the hassle.

My only problem is stopping them installing the emissions patch so I would have to put stickers all over the car, NO EMISSIONS PATCH, or words to that effect.

5 years old , is it still under some warranty ?

No, just for my peace of mind really. I have always ensured my cars are 100% safe especially now that I carry grandchildren.

I do an interim oil/filter service between the main but feel its good to have all other parts worked professionally and the book stamped accordingly.

The last time I paid for a main dealer service was probably 15 years ago .

These places are under immense bonus related performance , the more you get done , the more you earn , and mistakes are made...

Not sure what you're worried about .

Find yourself a good independent mechanic and save yourself a lot of ££££.
These guys get to know your car and yourself and I have been using the same guy for nearly twenty years and covered well over half a million miles in a Passat, now I am on my fourth.

Sorry guys, I have booked it into the supplying dealership for its Major 40k + brake fluid.

I have requested they DO NOT carry out the emissions update which has been added to the worksheet and I will put stickers on the steering wheel and under the bonnet.

All done, and a very nice job by the VW dealership in Shirley, Southampton. It had a clean bill of health.

Interesting note: The service schedule for my vehicle states the diesel fuel and air filters are due a change at 60K miles.

Looked at a nice 1.4 Tiguan R-Line (red) in the showroom but at £38000 I'll be staying with the Passat.
