Current situation is Audi A4 Avant, 12 plate, 84k miles, 90% motorway miles. Accelerating on Saturday and still an issue in 3/4/5/6 revs jump up by about 300 RPM then drop back down by 300 RPM car then starts to accelerate as REVS increase. Car then seems to pull ok after that.

Car booked in to main dealer next week for inspection. A local indy is quoting to replace clutch, DMF and seal after a test drive (ouch), also said there is a slight judder during acceleration which I have not noticed but will look out for next time I drive it. Annoyingly the car is 3 months out of warrenty....

Does this sound like a diagnosis and fix for the issue for a car that only done 84K?

Sounds rather like a clutch on the way out. Did you buy second/hand? 84k is early for this to happen in my experience. My experience is limited to 2.0 tdis though and the 3.0 litre might go through clutches more quickly if driven enthusiastically. Presumably the jump in revs you mention is after the clutch has been fully engaged?

3.0 tdi clutches are more robust even when remapped to
750Nm as they are twin plate .

Bought approved used from dealer at 33k with 2 year warranty, it's the 2.0. Yes jump in revs is when the clutch is fully engaged and I'm accelerating, it has started to slip post the initial jump in revs now. I think you're right it's just the clutch starting to wear which is disappointing as most of the miles I have put on it have been motorway only.

So to bring the saga to a close.

Service reports that the DMF had leaked grease on to the clutch which contaminated it and caused it to slip.
