Good evening,

Had my 64 plate Polo checked by a mechanic friend today following the engine warning light coming on and staying on a steady amber. He was stumped by the fault code that came up. It clears and remains off the 1st time you start the engine but returns the 2nd time.

Code is U041600 - Invalid data received from vehicle dynamics control module.

The Polo is a 1 litre petrol. Fault appears to have no effect on the car starting or running.

Any help on what it means, what's causing it and possible solutions?

Apologies if there's any other threads for this. I did use the search thing on the forum but couldn't find anything.

It needs a proper code read using VAG specific equipment, what was he using, Autel?

I am unsure of his equipment but does that mean you think that code has come up and isn't clear because he hasn't used a VW scanner? Need to go to a dealer/VW specialist?

The code is not of a format I recognise, I am used to VAG specific codes or at least P codes.

Did you find out what was wrong with your car? The exact thing is happening to my Girlfriend's car. The dealership wants £60 just to plug it into their computer. Thanks

How do you know it is "The exact thing" if it has not been code read?

My mechanic friend plugged his diagnostic to the car.
The error comes and goes so not sure whether it's a loose fuse or relay. Simply guessing.

If it is that same code I have not seen it and the format is one I don’t recognise so like the other chap I can only suggest a proper VAG compliant code read.

No worries. Like I said, the error comes and goes so it seems like something not connected properly. Thanks anyway.

If it generates an error it will be held in the memory so if you get a proper VAG compliant global scan done it should be very helpful. Try a local VAG independent specilsist, where are you?

it does get cleared off the memory from my phone via a bluetooth odb thingy. Not very technical I know! I also disconnected/ reconnected all the sensors I could see. Checked fuses/relays were in correctly. Reluctant to take it to the VW dealership.
