View Full Version : Clutch pedal is hard. Cannot press it at all.

I am not able to press my clutch pedal at all. I parked the car 1 hour ago (a golf 4, 1.6 akl, 1999), and when I pressed the clutch it remained all the way to the floor. Managed to take it back with my hands, and when I tried to press the clutch, it was too hard.
Is there any temporary solution for this. Is this something fixable?
Thank you in advance.

The pedal has broken and the push rod bent and pushed through the box section that holds a white clip. Usually you can get away with leaving the master cylinder push rod bent. You will need the pedal, plastic clip and clutch pedal switch operating pad.

Thank you for all your help.
I finally managed to take the car to a garage. The mechanic said that it was broken a lever, I don't know how it is called. It was under a green cap, on the gearbox, next to the front wheel. I found an image on google, and highlighted the broken part. I am hoping that this is something easy to find. :/https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171213/3b3e7b1cfe2c38bbaa218754737612c6.jpg

That is a rare failure these days. On the old 020 box it was an occasional problem but the design of the finger was strengthened for the 02K version of the 020 box when it gained a hydraulic clutch for the PQ34 platform. I would suspect it is because the pressure plate has gone heavy. A cheap easy fix anyway.

He welded it until we find a new one.
I want to order the part online, but I don't know how it's called or if it has a specific code.

 modern fleaBay generation kids, no idea about proper shoppin, You could be really radical and go to a VW dealer or local TPS where you park, get out of the car and go to a counter where you speak to a real person, not Pay Pal and buy one over the counter, part number 02K 141 709 A and £20.14 + VAT. I remember when I fitted a Sachs Sporting clutch to my Golf 1 GTI and the lever split almost immediately. I had a road test to do with a magazine the next day so I welded it up as a temporary fix, that was at least 20 years ago and it is still in there, mind you the car has been off the road for 10 years...

It's very helpful to know that there are people willing to help, and with so much knowledge and experience [emoji4][emoji4]
I will keep the part number as a backup plan than. If it fails me again, I will go to the shop and buy it. [emoji6]
Thank you again for all your help!
