Good Morning All,
I was driving on Saturday down the M1 on cruise control @ 70mph when I had an engine management light come on. The car immediately went into limp mode and I pulled over to the nearest services. I switched the car off/on again and the light cleared itself...and it hasn't appeared again since. I decided to take the car this morning to my local independent that advised me of the following fault code logged:
5182 (P200200) Particulate Trap Bank 1 Efficiency Below Threshold.
Odometer Reading: 93125KM,
Fault Priority 2
Malfunction frequency coutner 1
Unlearning counter/driving cycle 255
Engine speed 1832.50rpm.
Engine is the 3.0TDi V6, 2011 Model Audi A4, Manual Gearbox.
I was informed that it would appear the car had failed a DPF regen at the time, but later completed succesfully? The pressure readings are normal at this moment in time so they've advised to take no further action for now. My only query really is why would the car fail to regen when driving on the motorway at 70mph? it had been driving for over an hour at these speeds and hadn't been in any stop/start traffic. The Ash content was checked earlier in the year and I believe is about 12 grams out of a permissable 42g (I cant remember the exact figures).
My Engineering gut says maybe its a sensor issue, but having been on the motorway and thrown into limp mode I'm not sure I'm entirely comfortable with just waiting for it to appear again....thoughts on a postcard....
regards

p.s. Probably worth mentioning...had a new EGR Valve and Cooler fitted a few months back.

Bleed'n EGR valves. Does the independent have full VCDS, or is it Bosch diagnostics? When I had problems with my Skoda Fabia EGR - they did a forced regeneration after fix. On my old Audi V6 I blanked it off after cleaning out the air intake manifolds. Could very well be a pressure or exhaust temperature sensor. Full VCDS scan should be able to reveal.

if they did a regeneration-then its not you egr, its DPF filter-or get out on open road and THRASH THE LIVING DAYS OUT OF IT -shoult clean it through !!!, just get it mapped out-problem solved

Thanks for the replies. I believe its Autologic vehicle diagnostics they are using, I don't know if they use anything else. I should probably add that no forced regeneration has been needed - the fault happened at motorway speeds with the engine running for over an hour beforehand (aka ideal DPF regen speed/load/time). Would VCDS really show more than the Autologic software?

I am no expert, but as i understand it--vagcom can do the regen with the perss of a buton, so no need to be giving away you hard earned to the ********hips or burning fuel that can go into single figures easyly, depending on just how hard ya gunning it, and yes I do think vagcom/VCDS would show it all-as it VAG specific, instead of one do's all --just a note I remembered most if not all Big VAG Diesels regen by dumping fuel on th exaust stroke to aid in burning deposits off-dont quaut me on that as it may just be the V8-V10 -V12 TDI's that dump to regen !!

does it not need more than 1/4 tank of diesel to work ?
just thinking it went below that when trying to work

not that I know off, when it needs to regen -it needs to regen, if it were me I wid sertanly have the egr mapped out as they run Farrrr better withought them and you inlets dont get gunked up !!

throw a couple gallon of kerry throo it and give it a blast up motorway-ie kery has higher flash point than diesel so burns hotter and cleaner-(yes i did mean to say on a private road since kery is not for road use-:biglaugh:) CATACLEAN is also a good one throw 2-3 bottles in and just drive, euro car parts-order online tho-as you get it cheeper !!

ps-am I rite in thinking that your car uses AdBue ? if so it may have run short on it, if it do's dont pay through the nose buying from ********hips- any garage that sells it will be cheeper-just take a 25ltr drum and fill, decant into the one you have to fill car--big price difference !!!

I had 3/4 of a tank of fuel at the time. I don't intend to map the EGR out, I've just paid a small fortune for it to be replaced so I'll leave it as is. No the car does not use Adblue luckily...its an EU5...so DPF is the only thing it needs.

-Andrew Andrew, just get the DPF mapped out--if not put a few-read three or four cans of CataClean through it, it runs hotter so should burn of any crap that has acumulated in the DPF, just a thought--I have seen it work, infact I'v used it to get a few cars through MOT, smoke test !!

Hello again. Care to share what the fault code was, and how the fault was recified?
regards
Andrew
