View Full Version : MK4 GTTDI PD150 Cambelt and 60K Service
Im due a cambelt and tensioner change on my Mk4 GTTDI PD 150, alonng with the 60K service (it's got 56K on the clock but I might as well get both done at the same time).
- VW Dealership want £580 for the cambelt, tensioner and waterpump change, along with the standard 60K service (longlife), and a brake fluid service.
- Indendant VW specialist want £400 for the same Cambelt, tensioner and waterpump and 60K service. (Brake fluid service not included). I need to negotiate a price that includes the brake fluid service.
Does anyone know what the 60k variable service includes ? whats changed etc. I havent owned the car for all that long, so I cant gaurantee that the previous owners have stuck to the longlife oil, bearing this in mind is it worth putting longlife oil in at the service or having the standard VW spec PD Oil ??

does it need water pump doing ? cos never heard of em really failing on these engines really but might be wrong, that price does sound harsh i reckon some back street garage can change brake fluid cheap unless your keeping stamps up in your service book? as for the oil the stuff vw put in the PD's as standard is supposed to be special stuff for the PD engines
It doesn't need the waterpump changing, it's precautionary as it's in the same part of the engiine as the cambelt, you might as well get it changed at the same time..rather than it fail afterwards and you have to pay all the labour again, for the sake of £30 quid might as well get it done.
I do need the stamps in my service book. Theres long life oil for PD engines, then theres standard PD Oil. Long life costs more but lasts longer beween changes.

I have mine chipped up so never read standard service routines but just change oil on mine about every 3-4k,dont really like anything longlife in a turbo car,cos already had original & a 2nd hand turbo let go on me so,bought new one+feed pipe,so thats it for me oil change every half a mile from now :biglaugh:

Just had a quick look budy, the standard vw water pump internals are made of plastic and dieselgeek.com sell a service kit which includes a waterpump with the brass internals but i have never bought components from the U.S. im sure there is a company in good old blighty which sells the uprated pump:biglaugh:
All sorted now, had the cambelt, tensioner and uprated waterpump with metal impellors fitted, along with the 60K LongLife Service from my local VW Independant specialist. Also had the brake fluid service done. Cost 435 quid all in.
