So after almost 4 years of ownership my A6 is off to scrapyard!. My wife wants a smaller car so have ordered an A3 for her, the car is going into the Audi scrappage scheme (except all the retrofitted parts) Also If anyone wants to buy any parts off the car then let me know before it goes for scrap. I will post a link to the sales thread just waiting for Admin approval.
Here are some final images of the car before all the retofit parts are removed, will be sad day to see it go.

Unfortunately the sill's are rusting badly with drivers side being the worst, replacement sill's alone are £1100 from Audi then they need cutting out and welding in been quoted around £2,000 to do the job + it needs a new wing due to someone hitting the car in a car park and not leaving a note, and it need a new tailgate due to rust that has come back (had it respraied a couple years ago). Audi are giving me £4,000 for the car plus I should be able to get another £3,000 for the bits I've removed and swapped. I would never get £7,000 for a 12 year old a6 and looking on ebay I would get around £1500-£2000, and the car is worth far more than that.

It is overall but the sill's are hidden and the damage cannot be seen unless you are close up to the car. The damage to the sill's was done years ago before I had the car, people jacking the car up on the sill's rather than the jacking points. It's been on my list of things to do for years but I never got around to it. Now circumstances have changed wife wants a smaller car, I've now got a C7 Avant, and we don't need 2 A6 Avants in the family + we want a petrol as the DPF C7 is not good for the smaller trips.

Agree with Rob and comments
The A3 is a good choice, and I expect it wont disappoint, although my choice would be the older 1.9 TDI

Had an old A4 B5 1.9 TDI sold it and got the C7, to be fair I'm getting sick of ripping old cars apart, my OCD kick's in an if anything is faulty, broken or rusty then it must fixed. I spent the last 5 years with the A4 B5 & A6 C6 completing repairs and fixing rust and spending money on retrofits (mainly the C6). How I want Audi to repair the car's I've taken a 5 year warranty with each car so I can take a break form the spanners and spend more time with the family.

Interesting I cannot find anything on UK Government scrappage, other than this page which talks about £2,000.

I was over chatting to him about it again and he didn’t elaborate anymore on the 8K, but did say that the deal he struck with the main dealer including his car, was 1K cheaper with cash at an independent dealer, and he keeps his old car?!?!
He thinks the scrappage is a scam...

he said it was from the yougov website and that VW offered him 7K scrapage against a passat, going down to 3K against a polo...

The scrappage does not make sense on some cars, for example If you were buying an A7 Audi deposit contribution is £10,000, however if you trade in a car on the scrappage you would lose that £10,000 and only get £8,000 scrappage for you car!!!!!! not sure someone who was looking at the numbers was fully awake that day.
This is my example! My a6 is worth about £1200 due to mileage, condition and age, now I have already sold parts of the car and swapped parts, and that has got me over £3,000 so far, the scrappage is getting me £4,000 but I lose £850 Audi deposit contribution on the A3, so I'm almost £6000 better off, than if I had traded in the car or sold privately.
I was planning on breaking the car but not sure how long or how much I would have got for that + all of the effort required.
For most people the scrappage scheme does not make any financial sense, but for me it does at this point in time it does, and is most defiantly not a scam for me.

Bloody hell, sad to read this thread mate, but I understand your reasons.
Your retrofits and spot on guides to stuff will no doubt be helping us C6 owners for years to come mate, so form me, a massive thanks to you for all your efforts.
It'd be better if photobucket didn't go from free to greedy over night...
So what's left of the car after the vultures have circled, not sure what I need, but always interested in what's about....
