View Full Version : Question What do I do with my 2012 2.0 TDi Passat? (DPF short distances)

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum, so hello everyone

To cut a long story short, I originally chopped my Ibiza FR 1.2 TSi in for a 2012 2.0 TDi Passat Estate around about a year ago. My current commute to work is 13 miles each way.

Circumstances have changed, I am in the final process of buying a house that is only 3.2 mile away from work and I am worried I will simply kill the DPF over time. It takes literally 8 minutes to get to work so I doubt the engine will even get to temperature.

At the moment, as I am only 12 months into a 5 year finance deal with the car, I estimate I only have £2-3k equity in the Passat depending on part-ex price which doesn't leave me with a whole heap of options if I wanted to go back to Petrol. A large car is a must for me having two children, and petrol options on larger cars is very limited!

I guess my question is, can you run a 2.0 Bluemotion over such short distances? I know I can take it for a run but it seems counter productive to be whizzing down the motorway burning diesel on a non essential journey. Are there any tips such as premium diesel that would help? Or should I bite the bullet, purchase a petrol and suffer the poor trade in price at the dealers? I paid £10,500 a year ago so I'm looking at losing maybe £2k in 12 months....

If so, any suggestions on a suitable petrol replacement? Passats are VERY thin on the ground for petrols, maybe an Audi A5?

Thanks for reading :)

I was thinking of DPF removal, but just concerned over issues with the MOT

No issues as the external parts are still there , mot is visual only , had this done to father's car recently non VAG , drove down ( over an hour ) 47mpg , drove back 53 mpg .
