Hi I have bought an AMI from a member on here, I have replaced the cd changer with it, all went very smoothly because it was a straight swap, the car however does not recognise it being there, does it need activating from the hidden green menu? or do I need to make a trip to my friend with vcds, any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

hi mate. I understand your having one or two problems with the ami install. I have the genuine Audi mmi update disks. You can have them foc.
i never used them. Make sure you follow the instructions on this forum very carefully on how to do it. I have heard some people have goosed the mmi system. You take them at your risk but as I say they are genuine Audi in the box. Pm me your address and I will bang em in the post tomorrow. You will need to put your cd changer back in to do the update.
The part number I have is 4L0 998 961 for you to check it is correct. ( Maybe someone here could confirm for dan?)
MMI - High : EU

I know I have the distinct possibility of bricking my mmi by updating it, instructions suggest using a battery charger whilst updating, could I leave the engine running whilst updating?, I appreciate it can take an hour or two!

Where you get these OEM audi mmi 2g Update disks? In here scotland i phoned to two different audi dealership and asked about these. And both said that they dont sell them. Only for workshop use. That they can do updates and prices wasnt cheap. I downloaded and burned them my self but wanted to get original ones. I can see in internet that people simply buying them from dealer,,,but these dealers here talking *****.

They're in the post on their way. 1st class Royal Mail. Stick number 1 in a go for a drive. Don't stall it. 2 & 3 don't take as long as No1 I think:confused:
Pass them on to another forum user once your done with them. You know, recycle lol

Hi all just a quick update on things, used the update disks provided kindly by Lukenkarl, was a bit wary at first but used instuctions from sources such as a6 retrofit blog and http://uberlame.com/a6_tsb/Electrical/Battery%20Dead%20%282%29.pdf to guide me., it took about 2 hours! all in all to update, kept the engine running whilst doing the update, the AMI now works very well, had a bit of an issue with playing music initially, usb memory sticks seem to need to be in fat32 format for the AMI to recognise them, and music on ipods have to be in mp3 format I think. Thanks to all for advice and help, if anyone would like me to send me the update disks I am more than happy to post them!
Cheers!
