T4 1998 2.5tdi Manual - does it have a pump in fuel tank?

Hi,

I am getting conflicting advice from googling and actual real life people (yes they exist!)

Does the T4 (98 ish) 2.5tdi have a fuel primer/lifter pump in the actual tank as part of the sender unit.

If yes, should this whirr/make noise when i turn the ignition on as its primed?

help appreciated!
