Rattle on start up !!!

Any ideas would be much appreciated.......we have a Mk4 Golf Gti 1.8 Turbo 150bhp...its a 2000 and has done 43000 miles...on start up there is a metallic rattle form the top of the head, lasts for 1-2 seconds and is gone....initially thought the starter and replaced this, I am baffled with it, anyone any ideas ???

Hi, its your hydraulic tappets making that noise..its nothing to worry about. when the oil is cold it drains slowly out of the valve lifters ..the noise you hear in the morning is the tappets, it goes away when the oil pressure builds up. Perfectly normal :o. As long as it goes away within a few seconds ..never worry a thing.
