Mk 6 golf 1.6 TDI aircon not working

Just tried aircon button but its not working no cold air coming through also notice no noise from usual engine tone when its suppose to come on any ideas

Just had the air-conditioning topped up but still no difference don't see the compressor engaging

You won't see the compressor engage, it is a permanent drive modulated displacement unit with no clutch. Have the system checked for fault codes, if there are non and you know the pressure is correct then it will need a new compressor or modulation valve but they are tricky to instal.

Ok I thought it had a clutch the centre thread was out by about 5mm with either a torx or Allen key head on it thats what I thought maybe it had seized .the pulley turns but what looks like a clutch spins with it .i had taken the car to Halfords they topped it up free of charge but still no difference ,would the vag com or vcds diagnose the fault thanks

Just had another look mines a clutch operated not the permanent drive modulated displacement unit

The fact the bolt is hanging out is whats wrong. It dont have a clutch its on all the time and even when its off its 2% duty cycled on. You could try tightening the torx bolt but its most likely to snap. Time for a new compressor is the best bet.
