Guys
Need to replace front lower wishbones on my 2006 Passat 2.0 TDI DSG
I have noticed the rear bush bolt is obstructed from being removed by the DSG box, any ideas on how this can be removed ?
Many thanks in advance

Lower the subframe by losening 3 bolts or raise the gearbox.

Yes but I'm usually doing it on a ramp, you might need to do both if you are working with a jack and axle stands.

We lift the box, you get the same problem on the V5/6 Golf 5 with the sump and on 3 cylinder Polo platforms also because of the sump.

Stick a jack underneath with a wood block and raise until it starts to resist which might be enough. Some slacken the NSF gearbox mount to increase the raised height but the dog bone rear gearbox mount will fight you if not disconnected from the subframe. You only need to raise the box enough for the bolt to be accessed.
Loosening the subframe bolts (not removing them) may give more clearance but the subframe bolts are normally torque to yield stretch type so should really be renewed.

With the car raised on a two post lift we disconnect the gearbox upper mount (new bolts MUST be used) then take the car up and lift the gearbox from below with a hydraulic transmission jack taking car out to trap or stretch anything.

Thanks for the advise guys. Do not the engine mounts prevent the engine/gearbox rising up ?
Is the upper gearbox mount easy to get to ?

You just need to remove the gearbox mount to body bolts but these are under the battery, then the transaxle can be raised enough.

Hi, thanks again
So if i remove the battery and then remove the bolts you mention, i should then be able to simply raise the gearbox enough to remove the wishbone front bolt, is that correct ?
Also, removing the battery wont cause any issues will it ?
Many thanks again for all your advice !

And the battery tray 3 x 10mm small bolts.
No removing the battery will be fine - steering and traction control warning lights will stay on the dash when you start up but a short drive and they should self clear.
