Newbie looking for help with newly purchased A4 B8 2008. When I lock the doors with the remote fob (1 click only) the drivers door doesn't always unlock. When I lock the doors (2 clicks) it does seem to unlock. It always unlocks on the key however.

The cars been standing a while as it was a bereavement car so hoping the can of wd40 I squirted in the lock this morning will sort it. But if not what's the general consensus? Actuator?

If you read all posts then you should know, that answer is yes, most common issue is lock/actuator:)

I had same issue with my drivers door, a bit lock oil spray and play with fob, did a magic, two years now without problem!

Fingers crossed that's what it is and no expense. Otherwise I'll be back to tell you about it 😱

If you had read all the posts you would know that THE most important step is a code read of the incontinence system to see what is stored.

IF that code is stored in the relevant door controller.

I don't really want to paid Audi £100 to read a fault code! Now I notice the rear passenger door won't open from outside under any circumstances. Is it just one actuator in the drivers door which controls them all? Or is there a control unit in each door?

Ok I've a plan! Following further reading I think the door actuators in the drivers door and rear nearside door are shot. So tomorrow I'm going to try the following:

1. Resync the keyfob - (if anyone has a link to how to do this for a 2008 B8 that would be great and thank you)
2. Put a new battery in the keyfob (expect this won't change anything)
3. Check to see if I can hear the nearside rear door lock or offside rear door lock working (offside is fine by the way)
4. Disconnect the battery - leave for 15 mins and then reconnect
5. Remove the rear nearside door trim and read the part code from the actuator before ordering one from fleabay or GSF car parts.

Any other ideas I would love to hear - this is really p***ing me off now! And not sure if this is significant but there's no beep when I lock the car - I read on some posts that there should be. Only had the car for 48 hours and yes, I did read up on common A4 B8 problems but you can't find everything! I mean who checks to see if all of the door locks work on a second hand car? Really?

I'm working on the assumption that actuator/solenoid/door lock mechanism are all used interchangeably as on eBay they all look the same!!!

There is no beep because the central inconvenience system is seeing a fault so it is not going into safe mode, you need a code read.

Ok so I know I need a code read - can someone suggest a good reader or alternatively a good lead plus software for a laptop link?

I've now stripped down the door and the obvious replacement is the actuator module as it's an easy swap. But my local guy says he doesn't sell many but sells lots of the latch mechanism. However, I can't get to this as the door latch is bolted in with some kind of screw I've never seen before (almost like a ten threaded T40 torx screw) - so I've taken some pictures.

Firstly the cable all seems intact and is attached to the door handle and it does move when the door handle moves - just doesn't unlock anything.

So I'm really stuck - I don't know whether to order an actuator as the linkage all looks good - alternatively can someone tell me what the hell I undo and remove the latch with?

I've drawn around the cable from the door handle to the cable in red so you can see it clearly.

With rear door also check, maybe manual lock is engaged, specially if you are new owner, many people use those, there is two different locking solutions for that(check in owners manual)!

Thanks for this Gunnark100 but I've check that the manual lock is not engaged.

Ok, but keep in mind there is two of those, one is childlock and other is manual/lock one! Regarding vcds, link you posted is ok, you may get one from china as all those are resellers, who want to get profit 100-200%:). I say no more...it is not forum for pirate stuff:)

Regarding lock and cable attachments, this thread should give you answer to your questions:

VCDS on a lap top, full VCDS though, not stolen or shareware.
