Afternoon all,

On Saturday while unloading my car the rear drivers side spring decided it had had enough and sheared with a bang. So managed to order a new spring and plan on changing myself. I have done springs on cars before but is there anything unusual to look out for on the A6 Avant C7? Also will I be able to use normal spring compressors to do the job.

Thanks in advance

I would guess you need the car raised quite high for clearance to lower susp. But it looks tight for space......good luck!

I recently changed all my springs on my avant and getting spring compressors in there is very difficult unless you use the more expensive compressor that fits through the spring. my way was to loosen the the 2 subframe bolts so it drops about 20-30mm, remove the level sensor to prevent damaging it, undo the top 2 shock bolts so its free, insert a long breaker bar between the chassis and lower arm. You use the bar as a lever to move the suspension lower. By levering it downwards you can manage to get the spring out along with its rubber mount. Use a 2nd person to lever it down whilst removing the spring if need be

But won't all the geometry be out on the rear wheels when you put it back?

Nope, your not moving any of the adjustable points. Subframe bolts put the frame back where it was originally as you are only doing one side at a time. But as with any lowering its always advisable to have the geometry checked as a sensible precaution.

Well got it done this morning, took about an hour to do and managed to do it using normal spring compressors and didn't have to drop the subframe down. All is well, thanks for advice lads.
