Hi all! :D

I wish to ask you about your experience.

I need new summer tyres for my car, and I'm a little bit confused about the test results. I'm looking for a silent, comfortable, but excellent tyre. It seems to me, that mostly the Continental tyres used to win the tests, however the user reviews shows a significant issue with the former models. It seems, these tyres looks good for the first period, but became very soon after.

What is your opinion or experience? I had 19" alloys earlier, but here in Hungary the roads doesn't allow to use these, mostly if you wish to have your kidneys for a longer period :)

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Indeed Continental , especially Continental Sport Contact 5 is a monster of tyre test wins , however it's grip is down to it's soft compound and it's achillies heel is wear .

I run Continental ContiSport 5 with Conti-Silent technology on my RS6 (conti-silent means the tyre is fitted with a foam insert to reduce road noise). Still on the original rears at 25,000 miles. Super quiet tyre and plenty of grip. Very happy so not been tempted to try any other tyre.

Thank you for the answer. How can I get this? Is it a part of the tyre, or I had to add it separately?

It is fitted in the tyre at the factory. I suggest you check the Continental website to see which tyres they fit Conti-Silent to. I believe that some other manufacturers are also now fitting similar foam-based inserts in their tyres but, as I said, I haven't been tempted to try any other tyre.

Michelin all the way. Always been pleased with them. Had them fitted when previous BiTdi was delivered. Fantastic in the rain!

Thank you all for the answers :) Yesterday I asked a professional tyre service and they suggested the:

"225/55R17 97Y Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 FP SCT"

as unfortunately I can't have the silent technology tyres from Continental here in Hungary. I checked that tyre, and seems quite good on all tests in all the aspects, do somebody has any experience with this tyre?

Thank you, yes, I found that page, however the test results are not very signifcant:

"1st: 2016 Sport Auto UHP Summer Tyre Test (235/40 R18)
1st: 2017 Auto Bild Summer SUV Tyre Test (235/50 R18)
2nd: 2016 GTU Performance Summer Tyre Test (225/45 R17)
2nd: 2016 EVO Summer Performance Tyre Test (235/35 R19)
3rd: 2016 Test World Performance Tyre Test (225/40 R18)
3rd: 2017 Auto Bild Sports Cars Tyre Test (235/35 R19)
5th: 2016 Auto Express Summer Tyre Test (225/40 R18)
6th: 2017 AMS Summer UHP Tyre Test (245/45 R18)
7th: 2017 Auto Bild Summer Tyre Shootout (225/50 R17)
8th: 2017 Auto Bild Summer Tyre Test (225/50 R17)"

The same tyre, 1st to 8th results... however the overall summery sounds very good for me against to the others:

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 - Tyre Reviews (http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Goodyear/Eagle-F1-Asymmetric-3.htm#summary)

So it seems, these tests are not very useful, as in some tests this tyre became the best for the wet roads, on the other tests the test result was: "Long braking distances and poor handling on wet roads" and "understeering on wet roads".

Therefore I thought, it could be more then useful to ask for experience with the real life users :)

I ran Asymmetric 3's on my S4. Good all round tyre and the grip does not drop off with miles. I actually preferred them to the factory fitted ContiSports.

Tyres, like everything else is down to personal perception.

I got this tyre on my Subaru impresa, direct from the factory on 17" rims. The tyre performed well, in all conditions . Grip was excellent, with very little in the way of instability. They gave the car a real drivers confidence, however the outer edge of the front tyres wore quickly. This was partly due to AWD and the tendency to push through corners. The following year, Goodyear redesigned the tyre and re-enforced the edge blocks, making them more robust and less likely to give way under normal cornering conditions. This gave more road miles and a significantly longer life span. I kept this tyres design for 3 years, 2 sets I would say, until I change wheels up to 18".

A good all round tyre in my opinion, on a performance AWD car. I think the only condition they didn't handle real well was snow, but what non winter tyre does. Apologies, I don't have any experience with the Audi, but with regards to noise. On my Impreza your never gonna hear the tyres over the exhaust, so apologies, I cant comment further.

Also ran the tyres also on an MGTF VVT, staggered fitment, and the tyres performed very well. Similar experience to the Subaru, with wearing outside edges on the front, Rear wheel drive this time, the car did suffer from the same issue, excessive wearing front, But I only kept the car for one set of tyres before the engine blew, no surprise.

I don't think you can go far wrong if you are limited to a choice of tyres.
