My premium is just under £500. This included the cost of changing policy to my current car (3.0TDi 272PS Quattro BE) from my previous car (2.0TDi 177PS S line) in December, so expect it to be cheaper on renewal.

I have class 1 business use and 20k miles a year, which puts it up a bit. I think my 2.0 was £320 on renewal last year.

Based in the Midlands and in my 50s.

£380 for BE 272 in rural W Yorkshire, 6yrs NCB, 50 odd ys old.

Think Manchester is generally high cost isn't it? surprised it's more than the RS4 though. suppose it depends on age and value too.

I called Chris Knott, they said it was coming up on their screens as over £1000!! but they'd beat my best quote which was £640 by esure. Still crap..

I don't get it. I'm 36, 12years no claims, no points, accidents etc etc...4k miles a year, driveway. Car is worth 32500 and is a 218ps. Why is it so expensive?

That seems very, very expensive.
Do you live in car thief heaven or something?!

Try confused.com if you haven't already, they normally come out trumps for me.

Have you tried an identical car but lesser engine to see if that's throwing the quoting systems off?

Also 4K miles seems low - what about 10k as 4K would suggest it's at home more and more likely to be nicked as it's not moving?

thanks but I've tried that. More mileage makes the price 200 quid higher. A 2.0 litre quattro is only 100 quid cheaper. Not sure what's up.

There is a sweet spot for mileage limits with every insurance company. Unfortunately they are different between companies. Too few miles and you are a risk when you are driving due to lack of experience. Too many miles and there is a risk you will be on the road longer and more chance of being involved in an accident.

The only winner is the insurance company.

For what it's worth I'm with Axa - you could try them. Your location says "manchester" maybe that is the issue.

Try confused.com if you haven't already, they normally come out trumps for me. Mine is just as high. Paying currently around £600 for myself (32) and my wife (26 who does have 3 speeding points ) Car value was set to 28k with 7k per annum from memory. Been with CK for a number of years as is the wife so we stuck by CK - quote was pretty much bang on the competitors . I then emailed for the same circumstances but on an A6 272 engine (I have a 2.0 Ultra currently) with a 32k valuation - this almost doubled it.

Could living in Manchester have anything to do with it?
I know for sure most postcode areas are really high and the remaining are just high.

How does it compare to your previous car?

I don't live in Manchester. I live in Leeds, about 4 miles outside of the city in a nice area.

I was paying under £300 for my RS4(2007), for the last 3 years of ownership the cost was under 300 and the car was still worth over 20k up until the day I sold it. So that's why I don't understand why this A6 with half the power is over twice the insurance amount.

3.0 BE Quattro avant 245, 14k miles plus business use, 46 with 3 points and an sac plus wife 44 (no points), 15+ no claims, Worcestershire - a touch over £400 with Admiral multi car.
Been with them for a few years and renewal quotes are always silly but a phone call sorts it. They even added my new (to me) 996 Carrera 4 for £212 for a year with no no-claims applicable!

It's high for Leeds. And it's strange it's so much higher than than the RS4.

I'm with Elephant this year, after Esure were much higher than last year. Give them a try.
