I've just had an oil change and the front pads replaced on a year 2000 Passet V6 TDI.

As soon as I left the garage I noticed a problem. When pulling off the car revs for a while then surges forward then settles down again, it has done it in reverse as well and once when I had my foot just very lightly on the brake. Seems to happen more after heavy braking.

Garage has booked me in for new discs, could this be the problem?

Sorry to say it but it sounds like the auto box is starting to slip.

Hope not. Just been out in it and it happens every time I brake hard, think the new pads are binding, find out on Sunday when the new discs go on.

Sounds like they made a ****-up of fitting the pads if you're saying the brakes stick.
Fitting new discs won't be the cure, however, while they're fitting the discs they may rectify the problem with the pads.
It would be best to replace the pads again, as even in this short time, they will have been cut by the lip on the old discs and fitting them to new discs is bad practice.

New discs were the wrong size, should know today. What I think is happening is the brakes are locking on holding the car back, eventually they release and I surge forwards. If I slam on it happens every time.

We were all right, brake were binding on old discs, and get this, they dropped the oil from the gearbox (instead of the engine), changed the oil filter and then put 4.5 litre in the engine. Seems to be running OK now (hadn't used car). Thank you all.

That's interesting, my dealer told me that the only way they could drain auto box oil from the V6 TDi was to extract it via the filler pipe. Then they told me there was no filter, even though I'd seen one advertised on E Bay.

This all came about when I took the car in for a slipping box at 90k and suggested they change the oil. A 40k service item on Merc autos. They said it isn't a service item, there is no filter and it will make no difference. I insisted they change the oil and guess what? It cured the problem.

I think the dealers see V6 TDi's so infrequently they don't know much about them. Another problem I had was cured when the VW guys rang the Audi boys in the same group down the road.

Does anyone know if there is a filter and should the auto oil be changed at some service interval?
