Hello,

I have bought a replacement leather gears shift gaitorfor my 2002 golf TDI 6 speed. I have noticed that the bottom is elasticated on my existing one, can someone give me some advice on how to remove the gear knob in order to replace this gaitor?

Thanks

Brian

Hi, I've recently changed my gear gator too, was easier than I thought to change.

To remove the gear knob you will need to loosen the clip that clamps the gear knob to the gear shaft (which is at the top of the gear shaft, under the gator) To do this use a flat head screw driver to gently force out the clip, once this has loosened the gear knob will just slide off.

The only problem I faced was tightening the clip after the gear knob/gator had been replaced to prevent the gear knob from moving. As this clip was very hard to tighten I just replaced it with a small jubilee clip.

How do you remove the gator? Is the trim around the bottom just clipped in, or is it secured?

The trim around the bottom is elasticated and just clipped onto a plastic rim. Should just be able to pop it out using your fingers or a screw driver.

Good Luck!

There are some pic's here (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=19098&highlight=gear+stick)

The plastic trim lifts up from the back (closest to you)

Hope that helps

So with a little bit of force from the back end (boot end?) then the trim will come out?

Yep....

The boot end has 2 little lips... and the front of it has 1 big lip.

Good luck
