Just repeating this post in here as the A7 forum is very quiet, but it applies to the A6 as well.

I have a Dec 2016 3.0 Quattro BE with tech pack. I read the blurb before buying it and was under the assumption the phone box had wireless charging. I've just changed my iPhone (http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/field-keywords=iphone) (which wasn't supported) for a Samsung S7 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/-/dp/B004QC7LKA), which supposedly is. I don't have anything in the MMI menu that mentions wireless charging and the mat doesn't have qi on it.

Is is there something I need to do, or am I out of luck. I thought it was standard on tech pack cars.

If it's the same as the new Q7 etc there charging area is in the centre armrest - part of Audi Phone Box. It'll have the QI logo or some sort of wireless charging picture on it

No options or anything in MMI that I know of but having never used it - I haven't really looked

There are options in MMI, but only to select how it should behave when you leave the car and the phone is still in the phone box. You can have a voice message to say you phone is still charging, but you don't have to do anything to switch the wireless charging on. For the A6 this only arrived in the MY17 model.

No qi on the mat, so I guess I'm out of luck. I thought it was standard on a car of that age. Ah well, never mind.

It was an option and if you don't have the images shown in this thread, then 100% you don't have it fitted. Question Has anyone actually got the QI charger to work with ANY phone ? Yes, my LG G3 worked perfectly. Unfortunately, I lost the phone and the replacement does not have wireless charging.

It's disappointing for sure. Having read all about the phone box on the Audi website and with my car being only a few months old, I thought it'd have it. I mistook the aerial symbol on the rubber mat for the charging one. Never even knew what 'qi' was until I started looking into it.

Wireless charging was supposed to debut on the MY15 facelift (when the Audi Phonebox option was first made available). Pre-launch, it was mentioned widely. Then, when we got the brochures from Audi to spec our cars, there was no mention of it and when the cars arrived - sure enough - there was no wireless charging facility.

I would hazard that wireless charging has proved difficult to implement, though heaven knows why as it has worked reliably for quite a while now using desktop chargers.

In normal desktop cases, the wireless charger is ... well just that. But in the car, I suppose it's having to integrate not only charging wirelessly but then the challenge of those wireless interferences and what not to the aerial that the phone box acts as (I'm sure I read the box/caddy acts as an aerial amplifier via the external one on the car?)
Might be wrong :)

No,you're right. In the latest cars (such as the OP's), the Audi Phonebox both amplifies the aerial signal wirelessly and charges the phone wirelessly. Allegedly.

I too have it but to be honest, I never found it to be a massive difference in signal so I do not use it. I bought a brodit car holder which clips in on the passenger side of the heating panel facing the driver side which is perfect - Used brodit for many years so it's a brand I've stuck to.

Only thing missing really is wireless charging in the cradles itself which can be potentially hacked and a DIY job done on it but to be honest, I'm happy with wired charging on my S7 edge which clips into the charging connector as the phone is slid into the cradle.

While my current A6 does not have wireless charging (mine has that thing in the middle between seats where one has to get a cradle connected), I also use a Brodit holder to the right of the drivers side, over the vents. Works great with a short cable connected for power to the front cig lighter. Will use the same setup in the new one, albeit probably connected to the middle to have access to music instead of today using an old iPod (it should in theory also give me connection to the Apple Car Play this way).
