My 2015 a6 is due its first service and I nearly fell off my chair when the dealer quoted me for this inspection service, anyone else had a shock like me and can I get it done cheaper? It will be the 20k mile/2 year service.

of course you can get it done cheaper, in fact i would do it for 1/3 rd of that, but theres only one place you will get an official audi stamp on the service record..

Got me over a barrel haven't they😡! It needs new tyres too, may as well chop the car in for another new one !

why have they got you over a barrel ? they charge what they do, and this you would have known when you bought a premium car. the car comes with a warranty, and one that doesnt even mean you need it serviced by a main dealer, thanks to block exemption. so you can take it to any vat registered garage and get it done. so even bob down the road can do it, just so long as hes vat registered. but, your main dealer, because they are nice will price match a local indi, so you get a main dealer service and stamp for indi price, how flippin neat is that. and to say you might as well chop it in for a new one means you have money you dont mind spending, so by saying £373 is steep you are really saying you are just too tight to spend the money on something you dont actually get to hold in your hand which is the case with a service, unless you take the old oil home with you.

What engine size?

I was quoted £280 for just an oil change on a 2.0TDI, when I asked them what the price would be if I supplied the oil and filter (OEM filter) it dropped to £120, still not cheap.

My 3.0 A7 quote was £600.
I price matched it for just over half that in the end I think, although it was a bit of a ball-ache.

Someone has to pay for the coffee and TV in the waiting area, the car washer and all the gym equipment (See Poole Audi)

a main dealer has to be to a standard set by vag. if vag decide you are changing the colour of your floor, then you change the colour of your floor. if they decide you are having a complete makeover then so be it. mrs z was working at nissan in mk. nissan decided that dealer was having a makeover, so it happened. a few months later nissan decided the premises were too small so they moved down the road to another much larger workshop. all this at camdens expense.. its not cheap running a main dealership and yes, you pay for it if you decide to buy a brand new car and have a main dealer look after it.

A 2 year/20k service for £373 doesn't seem ridiculous to me, thats a lot of miles/time for 1 look at the car. Not that long ago cars would have had 2 services for that time/mileage.
Again though, these are premium cars and dealers so expect them to be dearer.
It would have been cheaper if you had chosen a Dacia!

Champagne taste with a burger king budget. This is half the battle I find daily working in the motor trade. It was £280 all inclusive for a full service with the average Audi 20 year's ago.

One other thing to think about if your car has full Audi service history, when your car is out of warranty you are more likely get goodwill gesture from Audi if something major goes wrong in year 4/5.

Sure helps. Especially if you need an engine.

I appreciate (most of) your comments. I bought the car from a small main dealer having had my local dealer look down their noses at me and gave me terrible service, maybe I looked like a Burger King type of guy!! This is the first premium car I've owned and yes the service cost was a shock. I simply asked if this was the norm and if I could get it cheaper, not sure what was wrong with that.

Nothing wrong with being shocked at the price and looking around. Good advice though would be to stick with the dealer if you are planning on keeping it for a while. When that warranty runs out and sometimes something expensive goes wrong having a dealer service history goes a long way to having a goodwill contribution and may save you ££££ . An example I'm aware of. ... 2011 Skoda Yeti 1.2 tsi came in to my work. Timing chain complete failure needed a new engine. The customer had first 3 services done at Skoda then Fred in the shed done the 4th. Factory goodwill from Skoda 20 % ...of a £4000 ish bill. Same thing happened the following month on another Yeti with same engine and same year and full Skoda history and Skoda replaced the engine for nothing. Think about it. That's a lot of burgers.

I know I'm on about Skoda here but I saw the same when I worked at Volkswagen. My mate sees the same scenario at Audi. If you stick with them then they usually stick with you.

nearly 400 notes is a lot of money for a service though, especially since it will be an oil change, quick check of the brake pads , glance an eye over everything else, then crack on with the next job, in and out in 30 minutes, 1.5 hours made up.. nice time bonus for the techy as well as the dealership.

I would not recommend the courtesy wash either.

I did own a second hand touran years ago with full vw dealer history up to 50k, before i bought it and iirc the inspection services on that included wheels being removed and loads of boxes ticked yes or no with comments, it did seem like a pretty thourough inspection if it had been done as per the checksheet! What's Audi hourly rate- hundred quid an hour??

It all depends on who you take it to, how much of a drama you make and who gets to work on your car.

Another option is if you know it will be pricey is buy the service plan. It may be a monthly or one off cost but at least you don't have to worry when it comes to service time.

Getting on for around double that now, I think.

I moved from Peugeot to Audi ownership a year ago, got my 407 serviced at main dealer annually and that was about the £300 mark, I paid a service plan each month for that so didn't seem that bad. But got my A6 serviced in August at main dealer, had gearbox serviced too and I was happy I only paid £574 for the full job, the long life service for my A6 is fixed at £399 and that will be done annually. Its just not worth my time running around buying oil and filter (£120 last time I checked) then spending an hour on my drive in the rain changing it when I can drop it off at my local Audi dealership who will do it for me, give me a cuppa, do full inspection of the car and install any updated software for £400. Bloody good value I think.

Utter rip off

Oil 5litres of ESP £35.95 on Amazon delivered.
Oil filter £11.32 on Amazon MANN delivered.

They even pump the oil out from the above.

Pads not even half worn @ 26k - visual check only required (no wheels off).

As far as contribution from AUDI goes - don't rely on that happening either in my experience.

Having it serviced by AUDI means getting offered good money in Part X - I was offered a truly derisory sum for mine after three years with super low mileage, full history against a new Ultra.

Hanging on to mine as it still drives perfectly (now the DPF problem was sorted, not by AUDI) servicing the easier bits myself and getting the Main Dealer to do the Multitronic oil change.

What puzzles me is the fact that out of warranty the servicing is cheaper and they will match written independent quotes - only trouble being as soon as you ask for a written quote the Indy will know you are going to a Main Dealer.

Of course it's a rip off but how do you think they make a profit and provide a nice shiny showroom. You also have to account for the labour & all the garage equipment and the building they had to build to service the car.

You can take the car to any garage to get it serviced, and the warranty will be fine as long as you use genuine Audi parts, if you don't then kiss goodbye to your warranty.

When I book my Audi for servicing, I always go to the dealership and ask to speak to someone in the service dept 1st. I then negotiate the price. I've just sold my previous A6, so couldn't look up how much the services were as the receipts went with the car, but from memory I generally get around £80-£100 off the cost by haggling. To me having full Audi history on my car is worth paying extra for. I have found my last 4 Audis very easy to sell because they always have full history with Audi receipts. I have never px'd because the prices Audi offer are always poor, because they have set margins they need to make, have to add VAT to the profit margin and put a warranty on it. I generally get between £2000 and £3000 over px price by selling privately.

Have you tried getting it done at a VW dealership?
Same company is it not? I got a fluid change job done 25% cheaper at VW rather than Audi.

I had my 2015 2.0TDi serviced (Oil change and Inspection) a couple of weeks ago. The cost was £405 which whilst painful was in line with what I expected and when you spread it out over 18000 miles it is not too bad. Of that figure about £100 of it was the cost of 4.7 litres of Castrol oil which would have cost me about £50 from Amazon. The other consideration is that I was able to get the (supplying) dealer to take the car at no notice on the day after a bank holiday because it had developed an AdBlue fault and I had the car back the next day. I like to think that my long term relationship with the dealer and the service department helped in this process.

It is the same company, however a VW dealer cannot by Audi only parts. So if the filters are only common to Audi models the dealer cannot buy them. I know it sounds stupid and it is, but I live about 5 minutes away from a VW dealer and the parts department cannot by any parts that are listed as Audi only, so have to drive 20mile to TPS to buy them....

I've just taken out the £20/month for 18 months Service offer for cars over 3 years old. Made sense to me, that will keep the car fully Audi serviced until it hits 100k miles or I sell it. The service package is transferrable as well which will help sell it.

Some idiots who love to be ripped off in this thread seriously and the way they’re obnoxious to the people who are doing nothing wrong in not wanting to throw money the drain is crazy.

I have had 4 new Audi’s since 2011 and only had 1 dealer service and that is only because they had a price match and matched the local garage’s price. Interim oil/change service I’ve never paid more than £120 using genuine Audi parts ordered direct from the dealer parts department to the local garage.

For those thinking warranty is affected, its not. As long as they’re VAT registered and using genuine parts your covered. I found this out the hard way when my A4 completely died on me about 6 weeks after a local garage service. Audi had no qualms fixing it even having to get parts from Germany. I had a courtesy car for over a month. Do yourself a favour, find a decent local garage who are happy to get genuine Audi parts and reap the savings. Ignore the must get serviced by the dealer brigade as it’s simply not true.
