Hiya people
I seem to have a money pit of a car at the moment :zx11:
Since i have sorted (well fingers crossed) the faults found on my golf gti mk4. The starting motor has been making strange noises after i start her up. She actually starts up fine its just the noise that bothers me shortly afterwards.
What has led up to this problem was car would intermittently loose power, so every time i was stalling i was starting the car up putting more strain on the starting motor i think ???
Any ideas as i don't think it needs replacing.

Well Vicky, this is becoming a regular occurance isnt it ;)
Could be a build up of dirt (dust from the clutch usually) causing the bendix to stick, if so then just need the motor removed, cleaned & lubricated and refitted.
Probably 50-80 quid or so :(

Starter motor noise just after release of the key is a major issue on modern VAG products. It started after VW remove the pinion guide bearing from the box and made the starter self supporting and even some of the older design starters do it to. It rarely causes a breakdown initially so live with it until the starter fails.

Hullo pete fancy meeting you here !!! :D
arrrrrrrr me think mrs golf is going to cost me :aargh4: :aargh4::aargh4:
Is there a way you can do that yourself or is it a job for the professionals ?? also getting off the subject slightly (((sorry))) since the first mechanic fitted the new cat and exhaust poorly. There is a slight blow at the top of the exhaust would this cause the car to miss fire slightly until its sealed ??? as it judders ever so slightly then misfires ((not badly but ever so often you feel it))
Thankyou once again :biglaugh:

Thankyou for that, i don't feel its necessary either to replace it yet like the old saying if its not broke don't fix it LOL :o
