Hi,
I have a problem with my '11 passat tdi; when i try to start it, the starter motor does not try to engage - as though you hadn't put your foot on the clutch.
All of the lights come on, together with the "Fault tyre monitoring not available" message and "error Stability Control" message.
After a few seconds of nothing, the radiator fans come on, and the power steering is working!
It is as though the engine thinks its running.

Leading up to this we had noticed the fans coming on at odd times - like on a cold day after a drive at normal speeds, but thought nothing of it. We have also had the tyre pressure lights on a couple of times; and once had the car cut out while driving slowly - it then restarted after a few attempts. I assume it is something to do with the esc, tyre pressure monitor, start stop system and auto hold

Does anyone have any thoughts?
Many thanks for you help
James

WOW your first Q since 2009.

If not already addressed, my very first change would be the battery. Five years is a life time with modern cars and all their electronics.

I did try jump (and bump) starting it; would that rule out it being the battery?
If not then i might try a new one

IN all honesty I am not sure but for the sake of it I would fit a new one just to rule it out.
