View Full Version : A6 Delivery timescale after build week

JSRed

Hi all,I've just ordered an A6 Avant Black Edition BiTdi and have been given a build week of Week 7 (subject to final confirmation). The dealer is suggesting it should be 4 weeks after then for delivery, so around mid March. Has anyone recent experience of timescales fro the build week to delivery to the dealer? I'm keen for the car to be registered in March to avoid the new tax charges which will come into effect on the 1st April which sees the annual road tax double. I've added a fair few options so hoping this doesn't cause too much delay. Thanks in advance

Hi JSRed,

I've been given build week 4 for my BE Avant, I was told but the dealer that it should arrive for 1st week of March. I'm like you hoping that it will keep to schedule as keen to avoid new road tax charges.

Delivery times are all dependent on the boats to the UK, you could get lucky or very unlucky! My shipping was only 2 weeks (back in October), however I read some people cars being stuck at the docks for 3/4 weeks.

Thanks Chris81. I only placed my order last week so to get a slot this quickly is good, but I've said to the dealer several times it has to be registered in March... even if I can't collect it until April.

When did you place your order?

I placed mine September I think???

It must be from weeks 4 onwards when they are building certain models like BE's.

This is my 2nd C7 with the same dealer and they were true to their word last time, however I do suppose it's based on shipping times. At least it will be 17 plate!

Ordered on 7th November originally given week 3, then week 50. Car in the UK just before Christmas, arriving at dealers today, picking up tomorrow!

Only one more sleep!

Thanks all for the responses. I'm hoping week 7 gets confirmed relatively quickly... the dealer said he has access to hundreds of build slots so it's just a case of choosing the quickest one. I've gone for 7 options so hope that doesn't slow it down in production (Tech pack advanced, advanced parking pack, smart phone interface, advanced key, ambient lighting, matrix led headlights, and S-line suspension (no cost option)).

Fingers crossed it all goes to plan!

Enjoy picking your new car up Waddie!

I ordered my 3.0 Quattro 272 BE (exclusive paint) at the end of August. It left the factory on 12th November and I picked it up 9th December. I had to push hard to get PDI turned round in a few days. March may be busier due to reg plate change as well as tax change in April.

JSRed

I know it will be busy, although not that many people are aware of the tax changes. hopefully as I've been clear about wanting it registered in March, they'll get on and do it (providing it arrives in time!) Not fussed about PDI as long as they register it first, they can take as long as they want after it has a March registration!

I have total confidence in my dealership and the manager I deal with has said it push comes to shove they will look after me ref the new tax changes if the car arrives late. I'm sure it will all be fine - I suppose it's in their interest to get delivered in time as otherwise the risk would be customers pulling out of deals and leaving them with more cars to shift. Particularly so with the new A6 launching in July.

My A6 Black Edition 2.0 Ultra was ordered 18th of December. Have added the Tech Pack, SS seats, Ambient Lighting and it's Daytona Grey.

Currently it's saying mid march for build with delivery within a fortnight from there. The tax thing doesn't affect me I don't think as it's a company car.

BiK increases to 35% for next tax year which is +3% currently.

Excuse my ignorance on this matter.

If the car is registered in March would it mean that it would be cheaper with regards to BIK?

The car is 23% BIK.

Chris81

I believe so but worth checking, I think it's moved up to 29% on a BE so would be more in April and moves up to 31% the following year.

The car is 23% BIK.

I don't think the date of registration has any effect on BIK rates because they are increased automatically every year. The VED rates are affected though.

If your new company car is quoted at 23% for the year 2016/2017, it will increase to 25% from 1st April for tax year 2017/2018. The BIK is calculated on list price with all options included.

I know my BE if it was a company car would be 28% before 1st April and 30% after. That makes an eye-watering £550 a month net tax. That's the main reason I opted out of the company car scheme.

My company don't do a cash alternative to the car so don't have that option. I also do between 30-35k miles per annum at the moment which may well drop but will still exceed 20k. This pretty much makes any lease useless as the excess mileage charges are huge. The maintenance costs are also pretty expensive on this kind of mileage as you'll be aware, just has a major service, a couple of parts changed to pass the MOT and 4 new tyres on my C-Class at a cost of just shy of £2k.

Would have loved the 3.0 Quattro but had to take a sensible approach and went for the 2.0l Ultra FWD. Reckon it'll be around £350 pm opposed to around £530.

Just had an update on myaudi, on Sunday the car was at point 3 of 9 (panel shop). Today it's at point 8 of 9 - on its way for delivery.

I'm now at the point that i hope it slows down as at this rate it will be here before the 2017 registration......

However I'm sure the boat journey will slow this down!

My Golf arrived mid February and I told them to hold off registering it until March for the 15 plate, which they did.

Mine's still at point 2... so 2 1/2 weeks away from going into production.

Good to hear yours is en route. I'll be interested to hear how long it takes from now to arrival at the dealership.

Had a Demonstrator for a couple of days last week. Was the 2.0 Ultra S-tronic in Daytona Grey with the tech pack and parking pack. Absolutely loved it, it's quite a big car going from the C-Class, it feels similar width to my 370z for parking.

Thanks for this, it's really helpful. How did you get that summary of progress, or is it on my available towards the end?

My 'Your Audi' says my order received 1/12/16 (although I actually only placed the order on the 4/1/17), order was confirmed on the 11/1/17 (stage 2) and said parts were being prepared and anticipated build date was the 13/02/17, but it hasn't moved to stage 3 "Preparation" yet.

What build date were you given in 'your audi' initially?

The detailed information came from using the API, but unless you're in IT I wouldn't use it as it takes a little to work it out. The info is very detailed and contains a list of options and the spec of your car - it's the same as what's on the MyAudi website but he website is simple to understand.

I had build week 3.

Had a good look at the API - quite interesting and managed to put my mind at risk that the LED ambient lighting was ordered as it just says ambient lighting on the specification, but the API shows the cored code (QQ2). Build date now says confirmed for 13th February it's now moved to stage 3. Getting excited now [emoji51]

Problem is, AFAIK, one has to register to MyAudi (which I am) but to see orders, one needs the VIN number......my VIN is still not available. Should be available in the next couple of weeks as production week is 9 (ie last week of Feb). The car will probably show up at the dealer as I am away in the Middle East and Africa!

I don't think you need to register for the API - just go to https://www.audi.co.uk/myaudi-public-api/services/v1/orders/62XXXXXX (replace this last part with your order number)

Went in for oil change yesterday and equally dealer wanted to catch up with me ref the A6 BE that I'm due to pick up early March.

The dealer then said that he can't honour the deal and the PCP and jumped by £75 pm. He said he has messed up as the finance package has dropped and the discounts are no longer available and rate has gone up.

He intimated that it's totally his fault and if I complained he may get told to make the deal happen.

Pretty poor service and his excuses were that as I ordered in Q3 and when the quarters change the offers change. I ordered in August and apparently that's where it went wrong.

I've signed vehicle deliver form but not any finance form so that's maybe where I went wrong.

It's now my 3rd Audi and disappointed with how he's dealing with it as I now have to do the leg work to make the deal happen.

Smells pretty fishy to me.....

It obviously depends if they can complete the deal, but if not and you have any costs due to the imminent purchase then make sure they cover your expenses. The cynic in me would suspect they allocated the car to another buyer or they were over booking their allocation. Make sure you record any future conversations.

With the upcoming C8 it might be time to rethink if the deal falls through and you can’t sort something suitable that’s in stock. I know your current dealer might be more inclined to sort something out, but I wouldn’t buy from them on sheer principle… unless it was a genuinely unbeatable deal ;)

JSRed
15-02-2017, 02:34 PM
Seems bizarre. If you went to collect it and came up with some excuse about not being able to afford to pay the price you agreed, I'm pretty sure you know what their answer would be.

Play hard ball. Tell them you've agreed the deal and regardless of the finance changes, that's not what you signed up to when you agreed to go ahead. The order contract you sign does have various things in there about changes in finance etc, but I can't see a dealer actually enforcing it because it means you can walk away from the deal too. They're not going to want to lose the sale unless they're confident they can sell the car on again, but why run the that risk. I wouldn't concede, but I'd also make them sell me the car at the price we agreed.

I know when I was ordering mine the chap mentioned he needed to find a build slot quickly and confirm the order as the prices where changing and he needed to 'lock me in' at the price we'd agreed... and since checking the price for the same spec has gone up by £5k, and I absolutely won't be agreeing to that!

If that holds true, it would have taken just over 4 months from day or order. At the time of order, the official Audi lead time for the German market said 3 months for an A6, 4 months for an A6 BiTdi and a an extra month for the Exclusive paint and/or Exclusive interior.

I ordered mine early January, so it's not bad going if I collect first or so week or march - that's 2 months, and a BiTDi too.

And they probably don't make the tracker available to the German consumers as it's so bloody unreliable and they wouldn't stand for such inefficiency. According to the tracker, mine's still in quality control, and has been for over 2 weeks now!

That is very quick. I am guessing the allow for so and so many RHD cars on the production line hence quicker delivery.

We dont have a tracker option, but we do have a tracker preperation option from the factory. The tracker itself is then connected/hooked up by the dealer before delivery. Btw, having a tracker here makes no difference to your insurance....

I meant the tracker, as in the 'YourAudi' tracker which give you progress updates on the build and delivery etc. I was saying it seems very inefficient given my car is apparently in the UK but the tracker online says it's still in quality control.

However, as you mention tracker, I think I might give it a go on mine considering I have the advanced key and they seem quite easy to pinch... at least that way if it does go missing it should be easy to locate. My friend had their XC60 stolen just before Christmas and it took 6 weeks before the insurance settled as they wanted to see if the car turned up. It eventually did but had significant damage to the underside so they wrote it off anyway.

Ouch! Not nice at all! My wife has an XC60 with the Volvo OnCall. Can track it through the phone :-) works great.

Re the tracker. Seems not available at all here......

YourAudi has finally updated and says the car is in transit "status 39" although speaking to the dealer yesterday, it arrived in Sheerness on the 24th and the transport order to the dealer has already been raised. The dealer commented on how it has been crazy of late with orders of people trying to buy Before the tax changes... so a new reg day compounded by the April 1 road fund licence changes are making it a busy time... I should know, I ordered mine with those tax changes in mind!

Happy 17 plate day!

Ok.....just had a call from my dealer. My new S6 is made and are standing in Neuss (central warehouse for Germany) waiting for onward transportation to my dealer.

Great news and all, but I will have to wait for delivery another 3 weeks as first I am away for a couple of weeks in the ME and Africa and then my dealer has holiday..... :aargh4::biglaugh:

It's arrived! Status has jumped today from status 40 yesterday to status 70 today. Phoned the dealer who says it's at the Audi centre for PDI and registration etc and hopefully can collect on Wednesday... still too bloody long but hey ho... not too much longer. Still waiting on the bloody finance documents as well.

Collecting mine on Thursday - can't wait!!

One week to go until a new BE and made a school boy error whilst away for work and staying at the Bracknell Hilton - didn't leave the parcel shelf open and an opportunist struck!!

Got mine today, quite like it. Managed to get it home and treat it to a wash, de-con and a wax, although the picture is before that as it started raining. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170307/ff2000ba2b515f8e440f4281e1d9c2fe.jpg

Nah just some work stuff - let's just say the scumbags are pretty upskilled in a project I'm currently involved in.

Hope all goes well for the pickup.

Ive just placed my order yesterday for my A6 avant BE in misano red, estimated build week is 21 and dealer says delivery around week 26, i hope it arrives as my birthday us in week26 so that would be a nice surprise

I told the dealer the online portal said build week 17 (24/4) and he now reckons the car might arrive late May and possibly on the road for June.

This is about 4-6 weeks earlier than he had guessed.

Does anyone know if an Exclusive paint order takes longer than normal from an initial build start date? Or will it take the same time to build and deliver as a standard paint? It looks like wee_gua (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/member.php/234672-wee_gua) is getting a 5 week turnaround time. That would suit me nicely!

I've collected mine. The BiTDi is impressive and it looks great in misano red, although I think the rear looks a bit meh. Can't put my finger on what needs changing to improve it. The front looks mean as.

Ref timescales, I was given a build week of week 7 but it started production a little early towards the end of week 6 (9th Feb) and collected 7th March.

Great news! I bet you can't stop smiling.

I picked up mine today in Tornado Grey and had a great experience with the dealership.
I've just come from an 2015 sline and now into a BE and the tweaks are good.

It's finally nice that there is a space to put sunglasses overhead, electric seats are great and the front end now looks better with the vertical bars on the grille.

I was a bit disappointed with the sunglasses holder. It's a bit small and fiddly to get glasses in and out of.

Loving the adaptive cruise and top view cameras... not to mention the sound booster on the exhaust which makes it sound like a beast!

Would you mind doing me a favour? can you open the right hand pocket in the boot and see if you've got a tow bar prep module? I was expecting a black box in the plastic holder thingy (you can't miss it, but has 'PA' on it). My rack only had the sound booster on it, so I can't see how I can easily plug in the towbar electrics?!

Towbar prep means the cars wiring harness has been prepared and plugs into the box of electrics supplied when you purchase the towbar and dedicated electrics. When fitting watch out for the hidden plug connection in the wheel arch next to the fuel filler, its not well described in the instructions. Also you will need a little coding done once electrics are fitted.

Not sure about the UK, but at least for the German market, the factory fitted towbar prep also includes a larger radiator - making it an ever greater car when doing high speed (most German A6's have this option fitted because of that!).

JSRed

I think that is the case here too... but so far I'm trying to work out what it means in terms of the electrics and specifically my car. The dealer I bought it from don't know and the parts guy isn't sure either. The parts they buy in can be fitted to either cars with or without towbar prep.

I'm at a bit of an impasse at the moment about what to do. I think I'm going to have to buy a wiring harness assuming the electrics haven't been prepared for the towbar and the module/control unit and see how things go. I'd estimate the whole project including coding would cost me about £550 using all genuine parts so not much of a saving over the factory fit and a hell of a lot more hassle 🙄

Oh well lesson learned... but it will be a fun project I'm sure 😂

My order has now been brought forward a week to week 16, 17/4. Hopefully that means I'll see it before the end of May. Much better that the mid-July estimate when I first ordered.

Production change over is usually in Week 20

I'm not overly fussed. As far as I know, there aren't going to be many changes in the MY18 spec as the car is coming towards end of life.

Does anyone know what the changes will be for sure?

Does anyone know what the changes will be for sure? The announcement of any changes is usually in late March/early April. Counter to you point of few changes because the car is nearing its end of life. With the new 5 series becoming available and the new E-Class and XF last year, it may be that Audi will throw the options book at the A6 spec in order to maintain interest until the C8 is available

I hope not! I have asked the dealer to confirm though.

If there is a change worth waiting for, do you think it would be possible to put my order back by a month to get the newer spec?
