Thinking of buying a audi a4 with a slipping clutch from a family member.
It's a 2004 2.0 petrol audi a4

Am guessing at this moment in time it has a dmf, don't know if it's faulty yet but if replacing clutch, probably be best to do that aswell...

If it does have a dmf, is it possible to covert to a solid and use the correct clutch kit for it to lower the cost?

Any helps appreciated, cheers

I had my kit changed on my 1.9TDI last year, and the advice at the time varied. The mechanic suggested it wasn't a big deal, but a number of forum members' experiences suggested it wasn't worth the saving, unless you want the car to feel like, and I quote, "an old Transit". A simple check online at www.oempc.com should reveal whether it has a DMF or not. I would stick with the DMF. If you're not sure how to check the catalogue, send me your chassis number, I'll take a look for you. Hope this helps.

It will have a dmf although you can convert a petrol without any worries, only the diesels need dmf.

Here you go How to replace a clutch on a 1.8T quattro A4 - very long w/pics - AudiWorld Forums (http://www.audiworld.com/forums/performance-tuning-10/how-replace-clutch-1-8t-quattro-a4-very-long-w-pics-1965131/)

Bearing in mind five and six speed boxes use different size clutches. What engine do you have?

Hello, £280 or 320 euros, got mine from Ebay uk. I live in France and it was cheaper than the Froggy supplier, these prices are for a solid flywheel on a 1.9tdi A4 B6. I now want to know if I've made a mistake using a solid flywheel, my local friendly(?) garage-man said "go for a solid if you want to keep the car for a log time". Any ideas?

Hi all i am marco i am new to the group. I have just bought an audi a4 carbriolet on an 03 plate it is the 2.4 v6 version with the bdv engine code and the clutch has gone after owning it for 3 days. So here is my problem if anyone can help or offer assistance. How easy or hard is it to remove and replace a clutch and dual flymass wheel if i was to attempt it myself and how time consuming is it? i have been quoted £550 for the parts and labour is an extra £250 if i was to have someone fit it for me but i am a bit hard up at the moment so would like to try and do it myself. Any help would be very much appreciated thanks

I'm in the process of doing this now although on a 1.8t. I bought a single mass flywheel conversion kit from DMR clutch, many people on forums have warned against this cheap kit, but having seen one in the flesh I have no worries using it, the friction plate is LUK which is the OEM of Audi!
I took everything apart yesterday (took around 4 hours due to some stubborn bolts) and will be putting it back together today, it should take less time, I'll let you know how the single mass flywheel feels in comparison. On removing the DMF I had a good look at it, there's over an inch of play between the two parts ( like a worn cush drive on a motorbike rear wheel) and the centre part can be rocked from side to side 360 degrees, such a bad idea.
Cars used solid flywheels for decades with no problems, they put them on diesels to make them feel less agricultural and somehow they migrated to petrol engines, I'll be glad to see the back of mine.

Ok thanks for that i will probably be attempting this repair next weekend when i have the time and the funds. Are you using a two post ramp to carry out the work or are you using axle stands.

Axle stands, it's doable but if you can get access to a two post ramp it would be much quicker and easier.
