As per title,
the map shows my location as being a few miles away from where I should be, looked in green menu and it says that 14 satellites are visible , see attached pic.
32322
Rebooted the MMI , drove the car for a few miles and noticed the coordinates (long, latitude , degrees etc) did not change.
i am assuming that the Sat Antenna is working as the car is saying that 14 Satellites are visible ?
i have scanned with VCDS and no mention of the GPS being open circuit.

thx for the link , according to A8 Tech , the dealer will need the vehicle for two days to replace the Antenna - has anyone paid for this work to be done or know the cost of parts , hours of labour needed.
my warranty ran out on the 11/11/16 :(what's the best way to ask / approach the dealer for "Good Will" ? (the car has been serviced only at the main dealer)
(car was first registered on the 11/11/11 and had a 5 year manufacturers warranty)

Say to the service or relationship manager that a third party repair would be the obvious route as you were going to be pricing a new A6 soon, but you were wondering if it could be done under good will as it appears to be a known issue/common fault.
You think it would be good to keep repairs/servicing within the Audi network for trade in purposes and you would prefer to have them carry out the work ;)

Does the "shark fin" antenna provide the radio signal and the signal for the SIM in the dash.
(model year 2012 , analogue radio not DAB , TECH PACK)
thanks in advance

Hi all
i have removed the "shark fin" antenna from my car , I removed the reading light cluster in the rear of the vehicle , and manage to undo the bolt to remove the antenna - quite fiddly to do but , in my opinion better than dropping the roof liner which would of been a PITA , new part on order.
pls see attached pics of aerial 32336

Hi johnro79
yes on a 2012 A6 , as I said I did it with out removing the headliner , removing the rear reading light cluster was the easy bit , had a mate to gently pull the roof liner in a downwards direction so I could undo the bolt that held the antenna to the roof, also put a block of wood between the roof liner and roof when my mates arms got tired , just fiddly. Roof went back with no sagging - all good.
In my opinion the aerials are not sealed properly, I took mine apart (see pic six tiny "star" screws ) and it was corroded inside.
also if you buy from the dealer they come in Matt grey , the dealer offered to paint it for me - I declined! All you have to do is take the old one apart and the new one and swap the "shark fin" cover job done.
**IMPORTANT**** , When you swap the covers , put a bead of silicone sealant around the edge on the inside of the antenna then screw the cover back on , then another thin bead on the outside of the aerial along the join to prevent dampness/ water ingress.
Make sure you get the right antenna , I have SIM card in the dash so the aerials might be differant if you don't have this - I'm sure someone will chime in amd point you in the right direction.
Aerial from dealer was £90.00 delivered
OR CHEAPER EASY FIX (this will sort the satellite side of things but not the mobile signal , but your aerial may not have the "mobile bit" ?
Go to eBay , search for "Trimble GPS " , buy it , remove head unit from dash , unplug the blue fakra plug from the back of the head unit (this is the cable that goes to the roof) , plug the "Trimble GPS" fakra end into the head unit , and run cable maybe to glovebox , or behind front pillar - depending where the best signal is.
trimble on eBay (u can get cheaper search "gps fakra" - Trimble will be better

I bought a GPS aerial from Ebay for £5 and stuck it up above the glovebox :)
Works perfectly and saved me £90!!
I didn't fancy trying to drop the headliner. Removing the MMI, climate unit and glovebox took me about 10 minutes. Total job time under 30 :)
Just make sure it has a Fakra connection as previously advised :)

Did you had issues with poor radio reception as well or just with the satnav?

I don't honestly know as I never listen to the radio. My issue was I wasn't receiving any satellites and my nav was constantly showing me in the wrong position
