Got an oil change service due warning this morning. Car has done about 8000 miles. Is this normal? Seems quite low mileage for service warning to start going off.

I think I can just reset this in the MMI but wondered what others thought. Am I going to do damage if i ignore it. Is it worth booking in to Audi? Anyone know how much it should cost?
Cheers folks.

Weird.. Mines on 12k and not had a warning for low oil yet.. Seems a little early IMO.

You could just top it up yourself with a cannister from Halfords?

I've checked the oil level and that seems fine but it's the oil change service warning that keeps popping up. Don't know if the car has just been set to a weird service interval schedule.
The manual talk about fixed and flexible services but I've no idea what mine is. Why would in need an oil change after 8000 miles? Bizarre

If it is requesting the oil should be changed, then change it.

I don't get these longlife intervals, here only for people who don't care about their car mechanically.

It's all based on how the car is driven, ecu takes into account speeds & acceleration etc.

Longlife is only for people who intend to swap the car every 2-3 years that way they only have to visit a dealer for service once or twice during their ownership, it's not good if you want to keep the car long term.

longlife sells cars to fleet users who's only concern is the cost of ownership for a short period of time. most company cars are sold after a max of 3 years, and no stuffs given for future owners.

I'd intended getting the oil changed outside of the schedule, at around 5k, at an indi garage however they talked me out of it. For what it costs its not worth skimping on £50k+ car vs £200, no question in my opinion.

Go to TPS and buy the genuine filter and oil, then supply that to the dealer so you only pay the labour charge, Audi oil charges are far to high IMO.

Could you actually supply a non approved oil and oem Mann oil filter ?

Did you manage to get to the crux of it bigd80?

More than likely wrongly configured setting for oil top-up I hope..

If it helps and makes you feel any better..

I just picked up the car from they seat recall update and got handed over as below..

& The car is barely done 4k...

I think someone at some point needs to start a thread (and a sticky for default software levels and updates based on year of purchase) on that or at least on Q7 4M Fuel efficiency & mileage experiences based on either 75/85l tank (I really don't think there's a difference)

I get told 600miles + on the dash after filling up fully an (supposedly - 85l) but always get 430 or there abouts no matter what mode I drive select it sport, dynamic, efficiency etc. I'm pretty sure the car thinks its got an 85litre (when it hasn't)and spits out the expected fuel economy figures based on that, but that's just me..

Anyhow until next time..

I will need to check footage from the thinkware 770 , as got handed back the car @18:30 & when I got in the car,..
the thinkware front unit was dangling on the lead!!..

At the moment, I'm not sure if I should fuss about it and email anyone etc when I know the work it was in for was for the back seat recall!

Nothing seems to straight forward this day and age ai... I tell ya!!

As the handover said I needed a top-up and this Audi centre are apparently not authorised to top it up (I had no phone call asking me so not sure why paperwork days I declined) ..

So I did ask dealership what oil code I should go and buy but the person wasn't particularly interested and quite sure manual lists the long life too

So what type of synthetic oil good for this particular diesel engine any pointers on makes and manufacturers as I'm hoping to keep the car long term and the advise I'm always dished is use longlife oil :-0

The manual and on the engine it recommends Castrol.

I used the Castrol configurator and it says (I brought 5L from costco for 25)

Castrol recommends for your Audi Q7, 4M (2015- )

EDGE 5W-30 LL

Satyp - you reminded me! That's the reason I experimented with the volume as when it goes in for a service, the cam isn't broadcasting it's filming :-)

I've been tracking my fuel economy on the road trip app since July. I do a lot of short journeys so not great MPG.

Fuel cost spikes are when I've used VPower. Could be coincidence but seems to have slightly better mpg after. Last refill was vpower.

So I rang a few dealerships (included my main guy that I usually deal with) and they all said there's no need to change the oil at 8000 miles. They all said just make sure it's topped up if it reaches the min level and to just reset the interval myself via the mmi to get rid of the pop up reminder. By doing that it will then coincide with the main service which is due at about 19000 or 2 years. At this point just get the oil change done as part of that service.

Incidentally a couple of dealerships quoted £323 for the oil change if I still wanted to go ahead and get it done now. Bonkers!

You can still use longlife oil, just change it as you see fit/required. I change the oil in my cars every 6 months Just before & after the winter months. I know any water get's burt off once the engine get upto temprature but I'm not sure if oil is hygroscopic. I should've have turned off voice notifications and changed SD card for a temp in retrospect, but really there was no reason for Audi to touch it its private property and its something that could have cost 1000's , a phone call 1st would have been a better route..

There is footage still there , just not sure if all our why the person would have needed to remove the the unit off the mount @srb

The Manual lists VW 509 0 as the default choice and the more common VW 507 00 (aka 5W-30) as an alternative, however going by this forum link HERE (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php/177039-New-VW-oil-specs-508-00-amp-509-00), I take it the (NEWER & better apparently!!) VW 509 00 equates to 5W-30 LL or is it "0W-20"???- the Castrol EDGE Professional LL IV FE "0W-20" - all a bit too much to keep up with!!, I'm sticking with @papereyes @5W-30 LL as I will need to fill up sooner rather later :-0.. just ordered -> Castrol Edge Professional Edge 5W-30 LL - with Amazon HERE (http://http://amzn.to/2hEvOev) AS Couldn't find online price from Costco, SO just went ahead and ordered from Amazon ( 4L) @£32 - http://amzn.to/2hEvOev

Anyone one got any thoughts on OW-20 over 5W-30 LL for the DIESEL VW Oil Specifications for (Q7 4M) in particular, thks rgds

In any case...
