Hi,

Hoping that this is relatively simple so that I can avoid leaving the car at the dealers for the day. The external temperature reading has been high for the past week and, having scoured Google, the symptoms suggest that the external sensor has become dislodged. The reading is typically 15-20 c above actual air temperature and can fluctuate fairly quickly. Problem is I cannot find the location of the sensor in or around the radiator. Car is just 6 months old and is the 1.6 tdi saloon. The high reading also seems to be affecting the climate control.

Does anyone know the exact location so I can eliminate this as a cause?

thanks in advance

Have a look at this but it doesn't look straightforward!

Thanks for the link. This is one of the few instructional videos that I came across already but it appears to be an earlier model and the sensor is not in the same position on the B8. Does anyone have any other thoughts? Every time I search, the results are unfortunately always dominated by Audi A4 b8 threads which makes finding relevant VW information particularly difficult!

Hi,

Just wondering how did you get on with this. I am having the same problem with my Passat and can't see where the sensor is located.

Thanks.

Did anyone actually find the location of this sensor? Mine is now displaying the wrong temperature after I washed the car so was looking for any help in finding the bugger. I've got a 2016 B8 if it makes any difference. Thanks in advance 🤞

Hi Stewie, did you manage to change yours? If so how did you access it?

If you have small hands and wrists you can actually reach through the grill and unplug the old one and refit the new one. If you have hands like shovels, you will need to remove the undertry at the front of the car. If you can get the front up on ramps or a few planks this will make access easier.

Hi All,

....rekindling this thread...as this fault has now occurred to our B8...

I've see a few YouTube videos on changing the ambient temp. sensor, but the comments are peppered with people complaining that their park assist no longer works and other assorted warnings/messages - after changing it. The videos show a pretty straightforward plug/socket type connector. I think my question is, what may have these folks done to cause that, and what should I do to avoid it?

A related question is that the online parts websites seem to have different parts depending on the car's engine, which seems odd to my mind - but I'm happy to be educated!..

As an aside, I noticed this morning the car would only send heat to the cabin if the climate control was set to 'HI' (the ambient temperature was showing 60C). I'm assuming there is some logic in the climate system to drive that behaviour?

Many thanks for any pointers.
