Fan heater in mk3 volkswagens

There seems to be a reoccuring problem with many of the mk3 vw's with regard to the fan heater either not working or only working on a single speed... i have identified the problem and it is easy to fix... after replacing the electronic component for the fan the problem was still persisting, so then i decided to take a look at the mechanism itself. When you turn the knob of the fan you can see that it makes contact with each of the different speeds(well, it is supposed to) so i simply bent out the copper piece that is to make contact, it took a little fiddling but i eventually got it to make contact, then fan is now working as good as it was on day 1...
