Hi guys, I'm new to the forum so hey to everyone here and I hope to gain some knowledge as it's the 1st passat I've owned.

Basically I have been having intermittent clutch problems the last couple of weeks more noticeable on long commutes where the clutch bite gets a lot lower nearly to the floor.

The first half of depressing it does nothing really but it's always kind of been like that since ownership 18 months ago... it seems to adjust itself higher when I come of the motorway and start town driving. I'm very worried il need to replace the lot... how often should it be replaced? Could it be a case of clutch fluid being needed? I'm in London and need to drive back to Glasgow tomorrow so bit worried about it...

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much

Iain

Hi Iain, what model, engine size and year is the car and what is the mileage? To your knowledge has the car had a clutch and / or dual mass flywheel change and has the brake / clutch fluid been changed? Later B6 models often use a mechanical release bearing actuated by hydraulic fed piston which acts on a metal pivot arm. The system is usually self adjusting.

Hi Mitchell, thanks for your reply mate.

It's a 2009 2.0 tdi bluemotion on 135k... I'm pretty sure I have in the paperwork that the clutch and dmf was done around 80k.

The brake/clutch fluid hasn't been changed in my ownership no.... you thing I should get it changed anyway... what will around garage charge for that normally? So should I be that worried I just dont want the clutch to fail on me that's all.

Thanks

It's just Mitch. Brake fluid should be renewed on these cars every 2 years and the clutch bled through at the same time for good measure. Fluid should be the VW spec stuff and not the common Dot4 stuff out there although I have used the ATE premium Dot4 stuff without any issues for over 10 years on VWs. Not sure how much it would cost as I do my own - my Scottish blood won't let me spend unnecessarily!

Apologies, apparently typing Mitch into my phone it automatically changes it to Mitchell.

OK I just hope it makes it back to Glasgow ok tomorrow morning. Haha if you can do it yourself then happy days. Where in Scotland are you?

I'm the opposite end of the island now (English South Coast) but family is from Orkney, Fyfe, Dunfermline and now spread from Edinburgh across to Eyemouth!
