I discovered this the other day.
Turn the ignition on but don't start the car, press the accelerator down to the hard stop and hold for at least 5 seconds (some say 30 seconds) then release, turn off the car then restart. Not sure if it resets the 'throttle input' ( accelerator fly by wire) or tiptronic but it definitely smooths out and improves gear change behaviour for me. I've also been using sport mode in combination with the upshift paddle to keep the revs from climbing too much. I find the engine braking in sport mode to make the car more predictable esp in stop start traffic. The D mode tends to keep the car 'running on' and needs the brake to moderate speeds whereas in Sport you can moderate speeds with the throttle more like a manual gearbox car. Been averaging nearly 33mpg over the last 10 months using the fill to the brim vs mileage traveled so will see if this reduces mpg.
