Suspected ABS Unit faulty?

Sorry for not getting back before.

Driving along all good under normal braking. If you brake a bit harder say at a junction.
First the ESP and the ABS lights come on then the Amber handbrake light. The first 2 lights stay on and the Handbrake light will come on with alarm at 15 mph each time.

Stop and restart and all good until you start above again.
Fault codes indicate wiring or abs unit.

My thinking is. If it was wiring it would happen no matter how you braked

I have changed speed sensors. rear pads and checked an old wiring fault on handbrake. Also done basic settings reset and function reset.

Hi.
Could someone please tell me how to clear the DTCs supported codes in the "Control Head" and the ABS controller.

When I run a scan I am told to "Please check DTC Memory of ABS Controller"

Check it then. Go into that module and read codes then clear. Sometimes you have to clear each module individually.

In car then qualified DTC's and then look for the ABS module and the Control head and then clear the DTC in there.

Can anyone give me a BEM code for my battery please..Its a Varta, H3 12v 100Ah 830A.

If you're changing like for like spec then a new code isn't needed.

Or have you deleted the current one/fitted a different spec battery.

In the case of mine with Gups advice I simply made one up!

Tried to re code to my battery. As I didn't have a BEM code I tried the one on the Ross tech film.
Up came a box saying "This appears to be an un initialized control module". With 3 options.

Tried all 3, but numbers went back to the same numbers that I started with.

The problem is that the battery was running at 40% charge according to vcds but battery is only 2 years old. Put the battery on charge Sat night so read 100% and used car. checked today and already down to 80%

Trying to work through 1 problem at a time as I think they all linked but fell at first fence.

Davey, it may help if you put your engine, year, transmission, drive-train detail in your signature (as I've done), that way readers won't have to refer to posts on different pages to offer advice.

Been meaning to reply to this thread prior to your PM/email, just been busy with stuff, accept my apologies mate :) .

For BEM code I only have VAG P/N for 70Ah, 80Ah, 95Ah and 110Ah for A6, as you have fitted 100Ah I would roll with 95Ah VAG BEM, P/N shown in EPC :-

If these numbers don't work or you have an issue I'll make a screen capture video of me changing battery codes on my car. For example when I swapped out my VAG genuine battery for a Bosch S5 I did not bother changing BEM as Ah matched, CCA rating differed (ie S5 was higher) but that does not matter (ie the 830A on your new battery), to make the battery module aware it was new battery I just changed serial number. The firmware in battery regulation module does not know about what is a valid serial AFAIK from my meddling, I just made one up :) .

If you are viewing SOC (MVB 6 data window 3) then yeah this can go down like that, only my opinion made from meddling if your going down to 50% SOC then battery is issue, if charging is occurring from driving around.

Hi all.
Well I think the battery is now performing ok thanks to Gupsterg and Andy, Big thanks there.

We now have a persist ant 00003 code in the control module.

As per Ross teck I went into the ABS module. Through the security code then into basic settings.
Put in code 025 into group box, the nexed 4 boxes came up with,
ERROR Group 025 Not Available.

Tried 3 or 4 times but the same thing came up.

Any Ideas please

Cheers :) , viewing your posted info error code is in module 7 (Control Head) not 03 (ABS Brakes) :) . Just to make sure can you post a complete VCDS scan log, do take out your VIN ;) .

Your coding for module 07 is correct :) (ie Coding: 0000002), view this (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/00003#00003_-_Control_Module:_No_or_Incorrect_Basic_Setting_.2F _Adaptation), so check adaption channel 12 of module 07.

Also can you post what the values of adaption channels 01, 02, 06, 08 and 11, cheers :) .

I noticed Channel 12 to.

Yes I have a KUFATEC FISCON bluetooth fitted. This was fitted before I got the car, runs through the car hands free system and all working fine.
The old phone is still in the arm rest but with no power.

Also Channel 2 .

No DAB radio, but I think it did at one time as there is extra wiring in the boot at the electrical stack.

Viewing page 10 of this Fiscon bluetooth install guide (http://www.fiscon-mobile.eu/support/img/fiscon_audi_pro_en.pdf) channel 12 needs to be set to 2, after setting it so reboot MMI and clear the DTC in module 07 and see if it returns.

To remove DAB, channel 2 would just be 02. You would also need to adjust settings in CAN Gateway, assuming it has DAB coded into it. I'm assuming you can't access that module as log states:-

Yes mate I would change the coding to reflect what the car has. Did changing channel 12 data value to 2 get rid of the DTC code 0003 in module 07?

If you now have access to this module you can use the "Installation list" button to tick/untick options relating to car (ie DAB, etc), rather than doing changes via the coding/adaption section for this module.

I could not make out which module Dave was having this DTC in, so I asked for section of log and in post 18 (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php/179490-ABS-Unit?p=1039091#post1039091) we see it's in module 07. AFAIK this coding issue should not lead to the issue Dave is having as stated in post 3 (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php/179490-ABS-Unit?p=1038240#post1038240). Your fault is a defective brake light switch or a wiring issue with the brake light switch.

The Switch is not for the brake lights only.

This was pointed out in Post 28.

The ABS unit that you took off maybe OK.

Sorry it's been so long, had a bitch of a few weeks.

Anyway. Changed brake light switch and all good so far,

Dan. I had ignored the brake light switch because that fault had been thrown up from day one of owning the car with no other problems and somewhere told to ignore it.
