I've had my 2.0tdi ultra for 1 month now and overall I'm very pleased with it.
Couple of questions though,
1. Idle speed even when warm sits at 1,000 rpm sometimes, but not always. Is there a valid reason for this?
2. After local driving <40mph, on exiting the car I can smell hot brakes. Is this just bedding in, its done 600 miles.
3. Also after short journeys the cooling fans run for several minutes, not sure exactly how long as I've gone by then.
4. Heated seats come on their last setting each time I get in the car, previous non Audi cars have always reverted to off each time the ignition is switched off.
I can't see anything in the manual about the above, but hopefully the forum members will have some experience of this.

Not sure about the seats, but points 1-3 suggest the car is trying to do a DPF Regen, and the short trips are not allowing it to finish on it's own, so carries on running after you get out (hence the burning smell)
Take it for a longer run if possible, otherwise you will get a DPF warning light soon if it carries on unable to get a full cycle complete.

I've had exactly the same questions on my 2.0 Quattro that I picked up on Monday! Delighted as dealer ordered me a Quattro instead of the ultra and I've walked away with it at the same price as it was their mistake.
Had 3 c7s now and can say points 1-3 is dpf related. I found the first few thousand miles is when the dpf regen is on overdrive so the fan keeps running and smell of something burning. After the first few thousand miles it settles down and you won't notice it.
Don't have heated seats in my current a6 but the previous 2 I had. From memory it defaults to off after you turn it off and on. There is a setting in vagcom that can change that I think

Thanks DPF regeneration fits with most of the symptoms, I'll give it a few thousand miles and see how it goes.
As for the seats I'll add that to the coding issues along with central locking single press not being available.
Thanks again.

I ended up getting rid of my A6 2.0 TDI Ultra because the DPF regens were driving me absolutely up the wall. Admittedly I only do town driving, very seldom drive on the motorway so i understand that the car isn't suited to my driving conditions but I just found it so intrusive and frustrating. I don't think Audi have thought the whole "DPF regen" thing through very well on the Ultra's. My car would attempt to do a DPF regen first thing in the morning as soon as I got to the top of the street! Gear changes were noticeably more snatchy, idle was always a lot higher and the start stop function of the engine doesn't work when it's doing a regen.
I've moved to a C Class AMG and can say Mercedes have done a much better job of integrating a DPF with their cars, i've had it nearly 3 months and not noticed any difference in driving experience if/when it performs a regen.

Heated seats remember their setting when switching off. Note that there is automatic timed power reduction, which can be set by VCDS. If you put them first to max, and the timed drops down, it still starts from the highest next time you start.

From talking to some pretty experienced mechanics the whole VAG group has a bad reputation for DPF issues. My current 2012 2.0 multitronic with its DPF issues will be my first and last AUDI - something I readily expressed to my supplying dealer service manager.
Never again!
Dpf problems is bad on all brands. I've had problems with BMW/minis, Peugeot etc it's a known problem with all brands and like the DMF issues manufacturers are doing nothing about it other than keep churning these out the door.
Funny thing is I've not had it on my Audis and that over 60ks across 3 c7s with a lot of town/heavy traffic driving.

Hi Re heated seats. On 2015 FL Drivers seat defaults to last status, i.e. if it was on last time the ignition was switched off, it will be on when ignition next switched on... But the passenger seat is off at ignition switch on every time. Have tested this other the last few days to ensure there is nothing random going on.
