Collected my new A6 Avant S-line 2.0tdi ultra on Monday.

Very happy with the car on the whole but have noticed I am only getting cold air out of the center air vents, and the fan seems to be constantly on a high speed.

If I turn up the heat control to 24-25°C then the centre vents stop pumping any air out. This is not a cold start issue, been in the car an hour this morning, the ambient outdoor temp was about 13°C outdoors so should get warm air to give me 21-22°C in the car.

Tried with a/c on and off, no difference.

Also when set to Auto 21°-22°C the blower fan seems to be constantly on a fairly high setting - as though it never achieves the desired temperature, or never settles down.

The side vents near the doors pump out warm air.

Arrived at my destination with a cold left hand and warm right hand :zx11:

Seems odd to me, unless I am doing something wrong ? Any ideas guys ? Should I get warm air out of the centre vents ?

This problem reminds me to a problem, which often occurs on the former A6/4F models. This failure related to the stuck heat mixer unit, maybe this could be your problem too, which could be a warranty issue. IMHO it could be useful to go back to the Audi and see what they say for this problem.

Not sure if it's the same but on my b8, the centre air vents only pump out warm air when not in auto mode... It can take a while for the temperature to regulate on colder days. When in auto mode the center vents don't pump out any air (can't remember whether they do when in auto and lower temperature set) I found the AC in BMW much better.

I had a similar situation when I picked up my new car with the fan whirring away at high speed. Turned out the valeter who had prepared the car, had knocked the rear A/C dials to maximum. Pondered for a while, then found the problem, and turned them down. The sync button on the heater controls does the same thing - equalises all for zones to the driver's settings.

Thanks, I have pressed the sync button. Not used the car much since but think that might have sorted the mad fan speed, not sure on temperature of air coming through the central vents. Will know more over the next few days as using the car quite a bit.

I have the same issue about no warm air out the centre vents (A6 C7 2016) and notice it more now the cold weather is here. The front centre vents NEVER blow warm air and as far as I can tell neither do the rear centre vents. Would be interested to know if this is normal and how the system is meant to work (which seems odd that when cold only one side of your body gets heat) or if a trip to the dealer is in order.

Have you got mad fast blower speed as well?

I did and pressed the 'sync' button which seems to have sorted my issues - will need to check if getting warm air through the vents though - not noticed cold left hand though since 'syncing' the system, and we have had cold weather of late !

I don't have the blower issue and have played with all the various settings but without any success.

Hi Have you adjusted the footwell temp setting on the MMI. There are adjustments you can make separate from the controls on the dash unit. I would suspect that if the footwell setting is to low in temp the blower may be working overtime to compensate for this. Have not noticed only cold air from centre vents but this may be correct if its designed to send heat to floor areas and glass areas. Thinking back to the summer when setting the AC to a low temp the cold air only came from the vents not the floor areas, no frozen feet but cool body. Hope this will assist.

Thanks for the suggestion - I never thought to adjust the heating controls in the MMI so will have a play and see if anything makes a difference. Would be very interested to know though if next time you're in the car and you have the heater on if any warm air comes out of the centre vents?

Hi Have had a play today. With the climate control in auto, sync on and AC on once up to temp there was no little or no output from the central vents, only cool air every now and then as the system kept things at the set temp. Pressed the button with a person sitting with arrows to the body and head, MMI showed control settings for LH & RH controls at its second position ( default ? ) then when turning the control knob on drivers side control on the dash unit, warm air flow that increased as I increased the control, also from the vent by the door. Put it back into full auto/sync little or no output. Conclusion... Everything in Auto only cool air as system needs, in other modes a driver selected output level.... Therefor do not thing you are having a problem Its just the way it works..................... Keep Warm !!!

Thanks for taking the time to experiment Elansear and good to know it's meant to work that way. hope it's not to early to say Merry Christmas!

I seem to get at best luke warm air out of the central vents - even when increasing the required temp above current temp. Quite happy with the overall temp in the driver positon but it does seem odd you don't get 'hot' air out the central vent when 'heating' - and hot is coming out the side vents.

Maybe the system is more intelligent than my brain can cope with !!!

I read on an American forum that the system is designed not to blow warm air on your face but to warm the car without you feeling the blower. Makes sense I guess but on cold mornings I wouldn't mind a blast of warm air!
