Hi, i have an a4 b7 avant and the glow plug light has started to flash and the car goes into Limp mode. If I turn the ignition of, take key out and leave for 30 seconds, the light goes out and car runs fine again.
Has anyone had the same problem and have the found what is causing this issue.

It's no use guessing, you need a code read to see what is stored, it could be any one of a number of problems from a sensor to a turbo fault.

When it starts flashing I have diagnostic machine which doesn't read any code, but there has been a couple of times the engine management light comes on. P2099 is the code that appears.

Hi Neil I had similar on my wife's A3, have you happened to notice it only happens on wet roads??

I had the AA out to read the diagnostic and no codes were given! - in our scenario it seems logical that water hit some sort or sensor underneath the car and shorted something out!
I spent half hour under the car with a can of copper ease as sprayed all the bits i could find. I've not had the problem since!

I Andy, yeah, sometimes it's wet roads. Will give that a try and see, thanks.

This is an OBDII code and is gobbledegook for your car. If it goes into limp mode it stores a code period. If your code reader only reads OBDII emissions codes then it will miss many non emissions based codes so you need a proper code read doing or buy your own proper code reader, not one of the fleaBay toy ones.

As Crasher has mentioned, get yourself to a VAG independent garage and get the car plugged into VCDS. The flashing glowplug could be a electrical fault, faulty sensor linked to emissions, etc. The car is going into limp mode to protect the engine, so it's not likely to get better.

Just gone through a similar scenario with my Skoda daily driver that had a flashing glowplug light and engine management light, limp mode and finally DPF light. My dash was lit up like a Christmas tree.

The codes will narrow down the issue, or multiple issues. With genuine VAG exhaust temperature sensors costing £80+, you can't start replacing components until you know what you're dealing with.
