Mine don't work either - can you tell me if you found out where the switch is?
Cheers

Hi,
I haven't looked yet, but "from above" - is that through the engine compartment or with the console removed from inside looking down onto the stick?

I guess its the same plac and part no. for a 1.9 TDI Saloon?

Thanks so far
David

From the engine compartment looking down.

So I managed to do mine from "above" over the weekend...
The connection is on the r/h side of the gearbox (standing at the front) and following the cable over the gearbox, the "switch" is on the l/h side, a push fit into the gearbox retained by a bracket with one 13mm bolt holding it down.
You need longish arms, otherwise ok....werid way to do things if you ask me...
Good luck
David

Rang around, but used local high street auto shop in the end - closer to me than an Audi dealer (and just in case it was wrong). £38. Even the local scrap yard wanted £20!! and I wasn't about to take a chance
The auto shop thought the price was a bit steep too until they checked, but hey, it works.

Only two types apparently, depending on 5 or 6 speed gbox. Mine is a five speed. Sealed unit by the way = not repairable.

Anywhere should be able to supply it - mine was ordered in and arrived next day.

It isnt completely sealed you can open the switch contact end (the bit that sits in the gearbox) but the contactor wears through so good look finding a replacment contact but if you can get a second hand one from a breakers you can open it and check to see the condition of the contacts .Hope tis helps someone .

Cheers.
