Hello everyone

I purchased my first car a rather dodgy Golf back in May. I won't bore you with too many details but when i brought it the mileage on the odometer was 97k when i had a look at the previous MOT history online (unfortunately after buying the car) The last recorded mileage was 225k. The seller was probably celebrating after i left with this car haha:aargh4:. Anyway during the test drive before purchasing it the car drove fine. After i left it at a mates house for a few weeks, i came to pick it up and drove it to my workplace. On my way there black smoke was coming out of the exhaust and it seemed that the car lacked power. After having a look at the car with one of the mechanics at my workplace the top inter cooler hose had come away slightly, but it was not seating properly and still felt loose on both ends, so the mechanic said the hose needs replacing. How much would this hose cost?

Also while driving to my workplace when i selected first or reverse gear and slowly lifted up the clutch pedal (not all the way to the top), the car would suddenly move off as if I raised the pedal all the away to the top. When this happened i could not change gears unless i switched off the engine off. Also when this happened the car would still move forward even with the clutch pedal on the floor and no throttle. Sometimes when this happened i could force it back into neutral, but afterwards i would not be able to change to any gear again, unless i switched off the engine. When i told the mechanics at my workplace, they suggested to bleed to clutch which i done but the problem was still there. Then one of the mechanics had a further look and said the slave cylinder could be leaking, because there is a noise which disappears when you press the clutch pedal. So i took the gearbox out today with some help from another mechanic, when the gearbox was removed he checked the clutch plates and slave cylinder and said that there is nothing wrong with them:(. The clutch did look like it had a lot of life left in it. However i still replaced both clutch plates and the slave cylinder since the gearbox was already out. The flywheel was ok as well. I have not confirmed that the slave cylinder being replaced has cured this problem, as i did not finish the job today all that is left is to bleed to clutch which i will do on Monday.

If this does not cure the problem the mechanic said that there could be an issue inside the gearbox, on the other hand one other mechanic i know said the clutch master cylinder could be at fault. I was wondering if anyone here has had these issues before. Any suggestions or help would be great, I have been told one big suggestion which was to get rid of the car haha. Since i paid 1350 for this car plus the parts i do not want to get rid unless the gearbox is an issue.

A big lesson learnt here for me, do all the checks on any car BEFORE you buy it, and take someone experienced with you.

EDIT: This car is an 04 plate and has a 6 speed gearbox.
