Wonder if anyone can help. My mate has a C6 avant 2010 2.0 and he's been having handbrake and steering issues. There is an intermittent warning flashing up about the electronic handbrake. And he has been experiencing light steering at speed and heaven steering whilst slow speed manoeuvring.
He took it to Audi and they quotes £950 for some module?!? This seems a bit steep, any thoughts!?
He's about to sell the car (can send anyone looking some pics it's a stunning car).

The can-gateway does not control the handbrake, I would suggest trying to get a forum member to scan the car with VCDS and see what code are being generated.
Over the years I've never seen a fault gateway on an A6.

Good to know. I'm assuming the J533 is the CAN gateway is it not??!?

The handbrake acting irrationally is the first sign of a battery on the way out.
If it's a 2010 am betting he's got the original one in...and they don't last forever, usually 5-6 years if your lucky.
As B5 states it really needs a scan.

I am still on the original battery after 10 years and 72,000 miles
The handbrake, you need to feel the wheels after a few miles and see if there is a lot of heat, or a difference between the 2 rear wheels. This will tell you if you have a sticky handbrake. Please note the front wheels will be slightly cooler. Feel around the wheel nuts rather then the centre
If the alternator isn't charging the car, then the car thinks there isn't enough battery power to work the brakes. The light usually comes on after 8 minutes. This allows the battery to get charged. However it could also be a dud cell or cells in the battery
Most garages will check for a dud cell(s) for free & you wont be much for checking the alternator output
As for the steering, check the power steering level, mine was below the dipstick, no leaks but just the age of the mineral oil ............. which means you have to read the cap in case its not mineral oil !
