Hi all . Help needed . I have a pd130 52 plate , when i first got the car it smoked badly so i replaced the turbo cartridge (cheap and not so cheerfull ) from ebay for around 80 quid . This did nothing to solve the problem of clouds of smoke when the throttle was down . Now the engine had done over 200 k so i decided to get a refund on the turbo and pull the engine out for a better inspection , suspecting valve wear , piston ring wear , valve stem oil seal wear , etc etc . so in the mean time i baught a low milage engine and fitted it while rebuilding the original unit ( which wasnt faulty ) guess what ??
same problem , engine smokes more than my old lady did . so a turbo was baught from ebay again , £ 500 this time and once fitted , smoked again . i cleaned all pipework , intercooler , fitter new egr , new ( complete exhaust ) etc , i checked the diesel fromn the filter to see if previous owner used "red " it looks and smells like it should and now im out of ideas , and patience .
Any one know why both engines have smoked after fitting new turbos ?

What car is this engine in, you've not said.
Once I know I'll move the thread from the Welcome section to the correct forum where you'll hopefully get the assistance you require.

Black smoke caused by :- faulty injectors, faulty injector pump, duff air-filter, duff turbo.
White smoke :- low compression, water in fuel, fuel pump
Blue smoke :- faulty injector pump, faulty lift pump, valves, valve stem seals, over filled the engine oil.

Dont buy a cheap AFM if you replace. Genuine Bosch only.
Have you not read the codes before?

good place to start and the AFM has been common to both smoking engines

If the air-filter module isn't controlling the oxygen intake and you're getting an oxygen shortage, you'll get black smoke.
What colour is the smoke?

replace the Mass Air Flow meter firstly
hopefully you have a nice new air filter and diesel filter
Do you know what mpg you are getting ? Just to see if your throwing lots of diesel out the back
