Tailgate strut pivot nut issue!

Hi all

After searching I'm not finding much in terms of a fix for this.

The pivot mount for the tailgate strut has become very loose, but worse still - the captive nut on the back is no longer captive! It therefore just spins, so unable to tighten. It seems that even removing the c-pillar trim doesn't help, as the nut is in an enclosed box section.

Only having one strut fitted is becoming a bit of an issue, so any experience with this issue would be very much appreciated.

not really an easy solution really. you may be able to drill out the old insert and fit a new rivnut or tack weld the old one back into place. or, relocate both pivots slightly lower or higher by drilling and fitting new rivnuts, depending on how easy access is to the old ones.
