Hi, does anyone own a PD130 engine at all?

I've just got the car and I'm using it for towing. I've used it once for a 170mile tow and for saying it's done 175k it's still going alright.

Now my issue is, power wise it lacks when pulling, once up to speed everything is pretty much as it should be. I've come to the conclusion that a remap is in order, has anyone done this to an Alhambra and how well do they cope?

I personally wouldn't remap a 175k car.

You are forgetting that the 1.9 130 PD is a legend that handles 300k+ with annual PD oil changes .

Thats not even run in yet... My Passat just ticked over 130k this week. Pulls like a train.. Go for it, one thing you will have to be wary of is the clutch and DMF at that mileage, it's probably been changed but some make it up over 200k I hear. If you get a proper custom map done, a decent mapper should take the torque spikes out and make it smooth which will help loads. Engine was built for it. I'm sure dark side do parts to help get it up and over 350bhp? (Could be wrong so don't quote me). Possibly one of the best Diesel engines in history. And easy enough to work on if you've got a longitudinal like the Passat [emoji6] lol.

Or get a generic with a reduced torque clutch friendly map that has the flatest and widest torque curve ever seen for a 1.9 130 PD ;)

If I'm not mistaken, the standard 130pd sport puts out more torque than the 2.8 V6 petrol? (I never said it was a faster car, OEM torque spec is 315 where 2.8 is 280) [emoji106] All PD 130's are getting on now but rarely hear of them failing. It's all about maintenance. Mine was hammered and treat like crap for 8 years before I got it... Had t three years now and runs like new... Just the rest of the car I'm chasing parts on [emoji23][emoji23]

Check your egr and intake manifold for fouling, likely to be pretty bad if they haven't been cleaned yet. Also fuel filter recently changed, MAF, VNT working ok ? Lots of things to check before considering a remap. I can't see much point remapping if your egr is still fouled up or turbo vnt not working properly.

Turbo, egr and injectors have all been cleaned, fresh oil and filters all round. The only thing I'm stuck with before doing the remap is the oil temperature. Now I've got the gage on the dash (as standard) and it did work until I changed the oil pressure switch(sensor) and oil level sensor. Since then I get no oil read out.

It appears it has no effect on the car as yet but I am hesitant to actually open it up.

Is what I changed a temp sensor or the pressure switch. It sits at the bottom of the oil filter housing.

I know the engine can take it. I ran a PD130 for 6 years. My concern is the drivetrain-clutch/flywheel/shafts on an already heavy motor.

I'm not no speed demon, its more for the mpg and for when I tow (2 maybe 3 times a year for around 100 miles).

I'm not aiming for a Santa pod car (although it would be nice 😂 ) and any sign of failure to the clutch/flywheel it would be changed and upgraded.

My concern was more the engine itself.

Still need to investigate the oil temperature and why the gage is not actually reading.

My 180 bhp clutch friendly reduced torque map is actually less strain on the clutch than the stock torque spike map .

This is why these tuning boxes are no good as they amplify rather than modify what's bad about the stock map .

From what I hear these tuning boxes are basically no more than a resistor that fools the car into thinking it needs more fuel, air and boost.

As we know (or maybe) a PD130 turbo is tuned to 1.3 bar. Those boxes basically tell it it's running at 1bar so ups the boost.

I'd rather the remap as its basically rewriting all the parameters not just those three.

Two extremes of torque with 180 bhp remaps .

The first one I doubt a used clutch would last a week !

The second has a very gradual incline to it compared to the first, I can see why the first would blow clutches.

Lol , you are looking at the bhp on the second graph .

Top graph the Darkside , the mountain top line is humongous clutch destroying torque approx 340 ftlb .

Bottom graph , the lower line is beautiful flat lined wide spread of torque , approx 265 ftlb .

Ok, need to study what I'm looking at here lol. Cheers for correcting me
