I have a 1.9tdi pd15 alhambra, when i press the clutch i have a grinding noise from the gear box, but when i press the clutch all the way to the floor there no noise it just like normal, The car still pulls well and goes through gear box with no issue, Its only when i first apply pressure to the pedal i here the noise, I went to get a price for a clutch and was told to hand fire because it could be just drive shafts or the CV joints. How could i diagnose this better as i dont really want to spend £450 on a clutch if i dont have to.

The engine has done 320k miles and had a clutch at 200k.

Any half is appreciated thanks in advanced

sounds like it could be the release bearing. does it do the noise when stationary and on the move, or just one.

no theres no noise when on the move or stationary, its only does it when the clutch is half pressed if you understand, once it doesnt on the floor theres no issue.

and if thats the case of it being the thrust bearing, and i could see the clutch still pulls well is it worth just replacing the bearing and leaving the clutch?

Personally I'm not sure its the clutch itself, but without hearing it I wouldn't know. My guess would be to check thrust bearing first but id image it'd be in the gearbox. I only say this because when the clutch is fully down you get no noise at all. If it was the clutch I'd imagine noise all the time.

Silly question, have you checked all you fluids, clutch/break and gearbox oil?
