Hi guys, in new to the forum and looking for some advice please.
With the hot weather finally here I have been driving with the window down and have noticed when I am lifting my foot of the accelerator pedal to change gear I get a metallic sounding tick from under the car.
I know it isn't the clutch through testing but it also only happens when changing from 1st to 2nd gear and 2nd to 3rd gear.
just wondering if anyone else has had something similar of knows what it might be.
thanks
Luke

Is the ticking speed related and get faster or slower as the car accelerates or decelerate or is it a constant even spaced tick?

Possibly pad shift in worn carriers, it does seem to be a issue with the 3C due to rust eating away at the sliding surfaces.

Thanks for the replies.
it is only a single tick when taking my foot off the accelerator quickly/suddenly.
i have noticed if I ease off slowly then it doesn't always happen but not always possible to do this in real world driving.
i also noticed this morning driving with the window down that occasionally it will make the same noise when hitting a slight pot hole/bump
in the road but again it isn't constant.

It does sound like pad movement.

Thanks Crasher.
what sort of money do you think I would be looking at to get sorted and does it have any negative effects overall if I don't fix it if it is the pads causing the issue ?

Apart from possibly stacking yourself into another poor soul on the road?
Probably wise to get them checked today ;)

My mechanic can't look at it till Friday so will get him to take a look and leave it on the drive for the next few days.
he said it could be the drive shaft when I described the noise to him, any opinions on that?
He is a mechanic I trust and have used for years unless job was to big for him or he couldn't do it.

It depends on the make of calipers, ATE or TRW. The 2010 3C we did last year had ATE and we had to get them genuine but he had new calipers and carriers all round all painted in VW blue. TRW carriers/calipers are good value.

Mechanic took a look this morning for me and nothing wrong he can see, just to be sure took car for a run with him and no noise now.
Is is it possible to still be one of these issues above but intermittent??
my service light did come on this morning doubt it has anything to do with that though

Sometimes taking the wheels off and retightening can cure a ticking noise caused by bad hub threads. Over tightening by zealous tyre fitters can buttress the threads and when you think the wheel bolt is tight enough - it is not. If you have any difficulty screwing the bolts in such as screeching or excess resistance this could be a sign of buttressed hub threads.

Hi guys has been a little while but yesterday my clutch started slipping and confirmed this morning the DMF has gone as well, whilst chatting said about this strange noise which disappeared and he thought it could be related to the DMF

It makes sense if you think how it works.
