Hi, I've had my 3.0 tdi allroad for 2 and a half years now and now there are niggles creeping up,
the engine has developed a tappety noise, the air suspension sinks at the back unless in allroad mode but its done that since ive had it, also recently the aircon will suddenly start blowing out hot air after a couple of hours driving which needs the engine off-on to reset it, my mechanic is away on holiday and isn't worried about the tappety noise but it really irritates me, its also developed an oil leak since I had it serviced too, my mechanic thinks the air suspension could be a solenoid, but we just haven't had time to spend on the car with me working away a lot and him being really busy, I'm tempted to sell it and buy a normal A6 avant with the same engine gearbox but the 1 ive seen has xenon headlights and rear led lights too and its a 2005 so half the tax that mine costs

Cannot help with the tappety noise, as long as the noise is not at the back of the engine which may be worn cam chain tensioner, which can be expensive, but I suggest that the rear sinking except in Allroad mode will mean like mine you will need the two rear air suspension units changed. I got mine new from ebay germany and had them fitted by a local VW garage. If it stays up on allroad, it is unlikely to be the solenoid I fortunately have had no a/c issues yet, good luck.

On the aircon side of things I took mine to a place last week to find that it was massively overfilled with gas and had no lubricant

When they refilled with the correct gas and lube it's now blowing ice cold....only cost me £20 which included an antibac treatment.

TBH all of your issues could be cheap fixes...the the air suspension could be £££

PS: Didn't you realise how much your road tax was before buying...it's why I went for mine as opposed to an AR.

Just trying to wind you up, I am sure you get a warm feeling of satisfaction supporting the UK government revenues, which, of course I missout on.

Tappety noise at the front of the engine could be the serpentine belt/tensioner or the fuel pump belt.

The sinking at the back will be the air springs. £300 of ebay will get you two springs and they are not hard to fit.

I did a write-up (Still sans photos) on here somewhere
